Shebizi Flowers

Bluish Flowers that dull the senses and free the mind.

I don't touch the stuff, my cousin's cousin, yeah? He took too much Shebizi and faded. I see you laughing, but I knew the guy. He was a good guy, didn't deserve what happened to him. No peace of mind is worth the chance of that.
— Shebizi; Peaceful, Nude, Dangerous.
The Shebizi Plant is a type of perennial flowering root that is native to the Middling Plains and Middling Jungles, and has rarely been found in areas like the Highlands and the Feng Mountains.   The Shebizi Flower is often known as "Sky Petals", "DraKaisies", and the "Extremely Lazies".   Shebizi flower petals grow in large colonies of flowers and can stand to nearly 2 and a half feet When exposed to direct sunlight, the petals of the Shebizi flower will shift through various shades of blue. Due to this unique property, the flower petals are highly sought after by clothing and dye making companies across Ithungsida. The Tinkerer's Guild has also made significant contributions to non-magical signage and symbols based on powdered Shebizi plants.   It isn't just the companies that find Shebizi mesmerizing, no, the fields of Shebizi have acted as an oasis from the rest of the world since time immemorial. People of all natures and kinds can find solace in a field of Shebizi on a hot summer day. The steam rising from the roots below providing a cool mist and the mere act of breathing within it becomes a delight. Every breath taking you a step further from the world as you stop caring and forget about everything for a little bit.   While those native to the Middling Plains had a lot of experience with Shebizi, the plant doesn't seem to have existed in Iwa, so, when groups of soldiers from the Fourth Fleet stumbled onto the glades, they invariably were trapped. Rescue Parties equipped with air bladders became common place as the officers became more and more frustrated. Labeling the cursed plant with a combination of insults from their lands, something that reflected both realities the officers often faced when they retrieved lost soldiers: "Shebizi" or "Slow Nudes".   Over time, the standardized name spread across the Dytikan Coast and Middling Plains, but the native Humans loved the name. They preferred the translation to be "Peacefully Naked".

Reactions

Most people that ingest the Shebizi plant still meet those roots of the word, as they quickly become Peaceful and, oftentimes, very Naked. Now, Shebizi has no real basis for making someone undress, however, when it is ingested, inhaled or consumed in most any ways, the plant removes inhibitions and cares almost instantaneously.   Over the years, there have been various levels of governmental backing and condemnation of the plant, starting with the Grove Burnings of the early 30s and most recently culminating in licenses for growth in KravMaw.   However, There are some claims that the plant itself is a dangerous product, allowing for overtly dulled minds and rampant escapism throughout the populations. Despite the somewhat controversial nature of the plant, the use has remained widespread across the Middling Plains and Dytikan Coast.

Analytical Approaches

Shebizi is a mental calming agent that drops the affected into a trance where they are no longer consciously able to make or access memories. Those observed under the influence of Shebizi are rarely active beyond murmured conversations without meaning and simple games; most end up making themselves as comfortable as possible and watching the flowers grow. Unlike other substances with similarly intense effects, Shebizi has no addictive elements that force people to return to it. People merely use it to escape the world.   A key point is noted in how it supposedly achieves these effects. And more importantly, what happens if you overdose on Shebizi. While firsthand accounts are rare, the general consensus from the magical community is that Shebizi is linked to the Ethereal Plane, to DraKaise and that a normal dose pulls you closer to the Ethereal and further from reality... So, an overdose would have you fade away.
Faerie Circles are those rings of toadstools that kids play and hop through in games. But adults know they are fake. You can bounce through toadstools all day, and unless there is an interested Dryad nearby not a damn fae will ever notice, let alone take you. But, let me tell ya, faerie circles are real.   And they aren't some damn little game. Not some damn little parlor trick. You step inside them, you never want to leave.   And those that don't leave, they just fade away. Till not even their corpses remain.

Fading

Many things cause debilitating effects when you receive a dosage that is outside of what have been found to be "Safe" limits. Water drank in the heat to excess can drop even the largest of men, Alcohol can purge itself from your system in horrible ways, and Shebizi is said to make you disappear.   Shebizi is thought to be connected to the Ethereal Plane, and it is held that a massive dose of the drug will pull you permanently from our own world to that of the spirits. However, the plant itself doesn't produce enough of whatever could cause this. An "Overdose", would almost certainly be thought of as a result of mortal action.   For the unfortunate souls that find themselves on a hot day in a Shebizi grove, when the humidity rises with the heat and the mist permeates the souls of the people lying there... They may never be heard from again, without any mortal aid; as the Shebizi has reached the perfect saturations to allow them to just fade away. Over the years, many have noted that this is the perfect culmination of what people use the drug for anyways, the ultimate abandoning of this world for another. That, combined with the extreme rarity, has forced this into a non-issue that is rarely referenced or even known. The phenomenon known as "Fading" having been relegated to the highest centers of knowledge and the farthest reaches of theories and folk stories.

I quite like the idea of sourcing all your quotes to an in-world book— something I hadn't really seen before and it really does help tie things in! Giving other groups different names for it is a nice touch, as well. Bonus points on using tooltips to convert imperial units to metric— I may have to start doing that myself.

I try to source all of my quotes to in-world books actually! And if I see a good opportunity, I try to reference the same books across several different articles. Though that's always a trickier proposition, I feel like it helps to give a level of consistency and interconnectedness to the world.   Everything has weird names that only a handful of people use, I figure that's the best part of plants like these! I like converting when I remember to do so. XD   Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, I noticed you do that often shortly after leaving that comment and catching up to your recent articles. I agree that it really helps connect everything, it's a pretty good idea! For mine I have a character that's travelled around the world that I use for most of my opening quotes.
