Akila Hoccleve, the Keeper of Knowledge and Avenger of the
Bandonallese Empire
Born in the ancient city of
Kephera, Akila hailed from the last remnants of the once-great
Bandonallese Empire. Her city, nestled by the shores and guarded by the Pharaoh's rule, stood as a sentinel to an empire long gone. The Pharaoh’s rule not only guarded the city and its people but also the forbidden knowledge that Akila desperately craved. It was her unyielding curiosity and thirst for wisdom that would ultimately lead to catastrophe.
Akila's heart found solace in the embrace of her beloved husband,
Zozth, the brilliant and driven scholar who shared her yearning to uncover the ancient secrets of their civilization. As the keeper of the city's sacred library, Akila dedicated herself to preserving the knowledge that had once propelled the
Bandonallese Empire to greatness — a technology that had ultimately led to its downfall.
Together, Akila and
Zozth sought out the hidden lore of the Bandonallese. It was Akila who discovered the ancient underground temples, and it was she who risked her life to bring back books filled with forbidden wisdom. But when the Pharaoh’s servants uncovered these sacred sites, they burned them to the ground, hoping to erase every trace of the ancient knowledge.
Yet the Pharaoh’s agents were thwarted by the
Thothinites, a group of dedicated scholars who had memorized and passed down the ancient texts orally, ensuring the survival of Bandonall's forbidden wisdom. The
Thothinites were peaceful, wishing only to safeguard the knowledge, but the Pharaoh's men would never allow them to live in peace. They hunted and slaughtered them relentlessly.
In a final act of desperation, Akila risked everything to save the next generation of
Thothinites. She took the children and hid them with her husband in a hidden cave, hoping they might survive and one day rebuild the knowledge lost to time. But soon, the Pharaoh's forces captured Akila.
She endured unimaginable torment but refused to break.
Zozth, filled with grief and guilt, rushed to her side. When the Pharaoh’s men found him, Akila was brought before them, battered and broken. The Pharaoh's men offered her release if
Zozth would reveal the children’s location. In a desperate plea to save them,
Zozth betrayed Akila and told them where the children were hidden. But when they found the children, they slaughtered them in the very cave where they had hidden.
Akila’s heart was shattered by her husband's betrayal. She could barely speak, but in a final act of defiance, she cursed her husband. They killed her with a knife to the heart, and as she bled out,
Zozth crawled to her side with a freshly plunged knife to his back. The two died together, their blood mingling on the cold stone floor.
