Shil-Wa

Champion Wa Shil (a.k.a. The Giant Hero of Yu-Bai)

Shil-Wa was an exceptionally tall man from the city of Yu-Bai. Shil-Wa was considered the strongest fighter of his his time and he made vassals of many kingdoms by defeating their champions in single combat (such is the custom of the Yu-Baii if they feel confident in their champion and he is available. Otherwise they send the marines). Shil-Wa fought with Mariani Cornelius in single combat during Berlintini I's Great War of Coalition in an attempt to turn the Berini Empire into a Yu-Baii vassal by defeating their champion in single combat. He developed a very bad kidney stone 3 days before the battle and he didn't forfeit because he though that he could work through the intense pain and that he would be fine on the day of the battle. The pain got slightly weaker in those 3 days and suddenly got worse on the day of the challenge, too late to find another champion. The kidney stone slowed him down in the fight and caused him to fall on the floor in a spike of pain. He got down low enough during the fight for for Mariani to drop his spear, close the distance and hit him on the head with the axepick's point and give him a concussion. To make sure that he was dead so there wouldn't be any surprises, Mariani removed Shil-Wa's helmet and bevor and beheaded him with the axe side of his axepick (Mariani could recognize the difference between death and concussion due to his experience, but he knew that Shil-Wa was out for the count). Even though Mariani held the head high to show that by the Yu-Baii rules they were now Berini vassals, the Yu-Baii fled from the arena to their ships and off the small island. As the 300 ship strong Berini fleet (the Berini had the fleet there as they were going to fight dirty and would raise Yu-Bai to the ground if they had to) pursued the Yu-Baii 178 ship strong fleet, the Yu-Baii regrouped and proceeded to ram the Berini line with a hollow wedge. As the duel was an event that was publicized starting 7 weeks before it happened, the king of Gurbaz mobilized a 214 ship strong fleet of Gurbazi, Gurbazi vassal and free Bashurians that was waiting for a Berini/Yu-Baii attack. When they saw the proceeding battle from afar, they joined, with the Gurbazi and their allies preparing to ram the Berini from behind on the right-wing flank with the 17 free Bashurian warships led by Yu-Mai Ashawa shooting round rock projectiles from their ballistae at the Berini ships from behind. A clever scouting ship commander saw that the Yu-Baii were going to change direction and attack and saw the Gurbazi fleet before the start of the battle and took initiative by using the northern wind and his oarsmen to go and call the 60 Berini ships blockading Hadar to come with him to assist the battling fleet. The Yu-Baii and the Gurbazi rammed the Berini at the same time and proceeded to taking the Berini ships from right to left with the Gurbazi Triremes constantly ramming and re-ramming the Berini ships from behind as they moved towards the Berini left flank. After 4 hours of battle the Berini ships began to flee south towards one of the captured small islands in the middle of the Hu-Balai serving as supply ports for the Berini. The reinforcements never came as they never found the battle site and the allied fleet never arrived on time as it took the scout ship took 4 days to reach them and they took a week to reach the area. 2 days later they found the island where the duel occurred blockaded by a Gurbazi fleet. The commander of the relief force found a way to deceive the blockade and smuggle Mariani and 7 Pentamiliaries off the island. The remaining 2 myriad or so Berini soldiers were captured and imprisoned in Gurbaz, Ubar and a few other Gurbazi vassal cities. Shil-Wa's body was recovered and buried in the hero sector of the Graveyard of Yu-Bai 3 weeks later and Yu-Bai stayed a Gurbazi vassal as before. The Kingdom of the Yu-Baii was allowed more lenient conditions as vassals and allowed to gain more power as a result of what the Gurbazi saw as a show of unwavering loyalty to the king of Gurbaz. One could perhaps say that Shil-Wa was the one who caused the Yu-Baii to gain power so that they could release themselves from the yoke of vassalty in 209 A.B from Gurbaz when the Gurbazi 29th dynasty went into decline and started infighting.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A massive muscular person that looks like he can thrash around bears and lions like ragdolls. By his 28th birthday he became so scarred that he wasn't the handsome-ish young man that he was when he was in his late teens.

Body Features

Very tall with a very imposing stature. His body is covered in battle scars as champion fighters tend to get injured quite a bit in their battle-duels.

Facial Features

He sports a large bushy beard to cover the scars on his lower face and the top half of his left eyebrow is obviously missing. His forehead and face were covered in numerous scars by his 35th birthday to the point that one of his friends who hasn't seen him since they were 18 couldn't recognize his face. By the age of 37 he had lost all his front teeth as they were knocked out in boxing matches where his opponents had cheated (this happened rarely) by wearing hidden knuckle-dusters.

Identifying Characteristics

Massive stature, scarred face, bushy beard and missing piece of left eyebrow.

Apparel & Accessories

He usually walked around in a rather rich garb and his hair was tightly beaded with turquoise and crimson colored beads with pale white beads adorning the edges of his bushy beard and slightly weighing it down. He dressed like local Yu-Baii nobility as he was very rich and influential. He also had some ankle bracelets made of colored strings and adorned with gold beads which were clearly visible over his open leather shoes. His shoes' soles had many panga segments on the bottom to increase durability and improve ground traction.

Specialized Equipment

He had a suit of armor similar to Eldanfan the Outcast's but with different aesthetic (both of them had the same armorer), a stirdy poleaxe with a head made of high carbon crucible steel (126 hard, a very hard steel that is better for shorter things like axes and daggers rather than swords), an anti-armor dagger capable of decent cutting of around the same steel, a greatsword-sized longsword made of spring tempered 87 hard (87 hard isn't as hard as the other ones like 121 hard, but it's tougher and thus better designed for making very large blades). He had a whole load of specialized custom made weapons for dueling but the ones I mentioned were his favorite and most sighted ones.

Mental characteristics

Education

Shil-Wa was specially trained to fight in single combat. He was extremely good in hand-to-hand combat with various weapons, grappling, wrestling and even boxing. His favorite tactic is using a poleaxe or halberd to knock his enemy down and finish him off with a strong blow to the head or a good stab in the face. Otherwise, he usually opted to disarm them and overpower them in a grapple that ended with him getting in multiple stabs into his opponent. Shil-Wa practiced this to perfection and was practically unbeatable.

Employment

Shil-Wa worked as a single combat champion on behalf of Yu-Bai and occasionally Gurbaz since the age 23 and a half. He was also a famous wrestler and boxer who competed regularly in competitions as well as fighting in tournaments, duels, etc. He was a truly professional fighter who was incomparable to anyone at the time and known to be able to knock a man down to the ground with a single punch.

Personality Characteristics

Likes & Dislikes

His passion is martial arts and combat.

Virtues & Personality perks

Highly skilled, usually calm and reserved. He knows that he doesn't need to throw his weight around to show who's boss.

Vices & Personality flaws

He bottles up his emotions and never wants to be seen as weak and had been suffering from chronic bipolar depression in his final years (He never opened up to anyone).

Social

Hobbies & Pets

Fighting and martial arts.

Wealth & Financial state

He became very rich from his fighting career, something that allowed him to get state-of-the-art equipment like Eldanfan the Outcast when he was just 28 years old.
