Canopy Organization in 13 | World Anvil

Canopy

An organization bent on curing the plague, by whichever means necessary.

Creation

The creation of this organization rose out of the discontent on some sectors of the Vanaran society of the Tall Belt. These people felt that enough was not being done to try and cure the plague. Trying to heal the symptoms wouldn't do. If traditional methods and healing were not working, it was time to try other things, and for that, they would need subjects.   For that, these vanarans traveled, recruiting both more members to study the plague, and people sick with the plague to use as test subjects. Over the next 12 years, the organization grew, both in size and in infamy.

Hierarchy

While there is no strict hierarchy of power, there is a hierarchy of transfer of knowledge. All knowledge acquired and discovered must be funneled through to those still living in the Tall Belt. There, the members for whom travelling and adventuring is not an option, study the results of their peers, and try to find a solution to the plague.

Questionable methods

Whilst at first their methods were prudent, and erred on the side of caution, this soon changed. The fact that joining the organization was easy to achieve, combined with their focus on the outcome, not the methods, meant that many desperate people joined. Worse, people joined who had lost everything to the plague and had lost any shred of empathy or pity for those suffering with the plague. They saw them as means to an end.   After 5 or 6 years, the reputation of these "doctors" was well known in the areas where they commonly worked, and most people were not willing to go to them. However, for as long as the plague raged on, there was always someone desperate enough to give them a try.
