In the time of the Ancients the region was known as Ibactha (The Diamond of the North) and was the only Ancient human populated region (a relative recent colony of the Ancients). When the ancient civilization collapsed, Osiris  "blessed" his closest followers of Ibactha with "blessed death" - sparing them from losing their souls to the corrupting demons. They lost the ability to procreate but otherwise were to continue on in an un-life.
However as Osiris and the ancient pantheon was removed from the Prime, the undead society rapidly fell apart into the mindless throngs typically associated with the undead. With nothing living, their remnants faded with each new season of snow.
When the descendants of the Hadamon  criminals explored this region, they unexpectedly woke up the undead who had been long frozen in their icy tombs. To this day, the undead defend their realm with vigor, and at times have amassed into loose armies and marched on the neighboring countries of Othavik and Othtak.
The region is shunned by the living, large forts exist on the Othavik and Othtak borders to turn back any undead armies.
