Isis Character in 100 Worlds | World Anvil

Isis

Isis was worshiped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic.   She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans and the downtrodden, but she also listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers. Isis is often depicted as the mother of Ra.   Her headdress is a throne (Isis means Throne). Pharaoh's are depicted as her children.   It was believed the rivers flooded due to her tears over Osiris (murdered by Set ), She resurrected Osiris. Osiris was chopped up, she could not find one piece - his Phallus - so she gave him a gold one.   Knots = Magical Power. The Tyet is the "Knot of Isis". It resmbles the Ankh, but with arms down.   Symbol = Horns with disk between them   Magic - she got her powers by extorting them from Ra (had a snake bit him that only she know the antidote for). She learned his secret name and thus had power over him.   She became the most important deity in the pantheon because of her magic. Her milk had curative powers.
