Alpha

Myth and Legend

Alpha is sometimes called "The lost planet" or "The First World". Explorers, archaeologists, treasure hunters and storytellers perpetuated the concept of lost or missing planet. Treasure seekers speculate wildly about its potential riches.   Its existence has long been sought and never found, but it is frequently attributed (right or wrong) to any number of strange and unexplained phenomena.

Key elements from Ancient hieroglyphs

The hieroglyphic “Kop-gol” translates loosely to “The First World” and appears in many writings of the Ancients . Hieroglyphs also indicate it is the largest planet in the Primean Solar System and that shortly after "creation" it disappeared from its celestial place. Some theorists believe Alpha is not an actual physical planet but instead a synonymous term for the afterlife (a foundational concept of the Ancients).

Scientific Theories

One popular theory was that the Broken Crown Asteroid Belt are the remains of Alpha (or a nother planet at the very least).

Recent Developments

In the year 1610 a planet larger than any ever seen was detected by telescope. It first appeared as a huge distortion in the star field where there was no planet before. Many have eagerly proclaimed this planet to be "Alpha", and a great many questions have begun to emerge, such as:
  • How does a planet go missing? Was it hidden by the Ancients magic?
  • Or has it come from somewhere else?
  • Maybe its a ship

Geography

Alpha is approximate 12,000 miles in circumference and lies in the 3rd orbit of Primea. There is one major "tractum" (landmass), that sprawls across the globe creating a multitude of distinct regions.
  • "Tractus Majora" is the largest region, essentially a massive peninsula that runs roughly east-to-west and is bordered by northern (Boreus Ocean), southern oceans (Austral & Imus Oceans) and Midcopular Ocean. Tractus Majora ends at the southern polar landmass.
  • "Tractus Minora" is a spur that reaches from the southern polar landmass and runs roughly north-south and connecting to the Northern polar landmass.

Oceanography

  • The Boreus Ocean - a northern polar ocean with a long offshoot named The Boreus Straights and a terminus named the Sea of Semotian.
  • A southern chain of oceans consisting of, The Sea of Muralis, The Austral Ocean and The Imus Ocean.
  • The Midcopular Ocean connects the northern and southern bodies of water.
  • A number of smaller bodies of water have been collated and named as well

Major Rivers

There are approximately 36 major watersheds spread across the landmasses. There is also an uncharacteristically semi-circular chain of islands jutting into the Sea of Semotian.

Climate

From initial observations, Alpha hosts a range of climates - Snow caps, deserts, deciduous forests, pine forests, jungles and deserts have been noted. Storms and typical weather patterns have been noted as well.

Unfolding Colonization Plans

Etolar (Human, Tremon) At present, The Etolarian Empire is holding its colonization plans close-at-hand. However information has been gleaned indicating plans to seed a maximum of 10 colonies (although if history holds true, the least viable will be postponed). See also Tremon Alpha Colonies Government.   Etolar (Human, Surland) It his highly likely that the nation of Surland on Etolar has obtained Etolarian colonization plans (as they have at many points in history). Coupled with their own analysis it is likely they will compete for many of the same areas.   Drago (Dragonborn) The staunchly provincial Dragonborn have announced uncharacteristic plans to establish "lairs" on Alpha as well. Assuming the follow their patterns of habitation on Drago, they will seek to establish very small habitats where raw minerals are prevalent and prohibit access as much as possible.   Acradus (Tiefling) The Acradians have made outlandish claims ranging from claims of establishing "hundreds" of colonies, to outrageously claiming all of Alpha as annexed territory. It is likely only the most legalistic among them will actually effect lasting colonies on Alpha. It is more likely bands of marauders, cutthroats, highwaymen and trill seekers will establish camps and mix in with colonies of other origins.   Tabax (Tabaxi) The various entities on Tabax have also voiced plans to colonize Alpha. History has given little evidence of their colonial efforts to date, but their prowess in conflicts would indicate the ability to hold any established.   Etaru (High Elves) The elves are moving alarmingly and uncharacteristically swift - it is unclear if they intend to colonize, garrison or blockade. They have even been so bold as to utter warnings to governments seeking only "to plunder the cosmic treasures of the solar system".   Erbasis (gnomes) The gnomes have made no independent colonization plans, but have partnered with Etolar, providing expertise, airships and equipment.   Torogo (Inner-rim Dwarves) Also moving alarmingly swift are the Torogon dwarves. In fact inside sources suggest they were gearing up for colonization efforts prior to the appearance of Alpha It is unclear if this is coincidence or if they harbored foreknowledge of the incident. The Torogons are likely to vie for areas they can mine in addition to strategic areas they can control to exact tolls / taxes on commercial activity.   Orebim (outer-rim Dwarves) Embroiled in their own on-world conflicts, no colonization plans have been announced.   Hadamon (Humans) The Xenophobic stance and culture differences have made the Xun Dynasty's plans unclear.   Othis (Humans) The Othans have announced plans to colonize a half-dozen regions in the extreme north.
