The Settler's Festival

At various times during the month of Huren (the 9th month), the Etolarian settlers of Alpha celebrate the "Settler's Festival" - a day which commemorates their arrival on Alpha and early settlement construciton efforts.   Each city may have a slightly differnt start day and length. Even the theme of the celebration based on local historical events often encompasing skilled trades. For example the Zone C Settlement engaged in an entire week of make mudbricks to establish homes at their settlement. Their celebrations often involve tug-of-war in a muddy field, foot races thorugh wildhay bales, and structured activities to renew worn tools and workshops to pass on the skills of mud-brick making to others.   In future years this day will be an auspicious day for beginning construciton projects.   Following the month of Huren is the traditional Festival of Calm (built into the Etolarian calendar) so some communities recognized the "Settler's Festival" during the Calm festival.
