Hey there!

From my end the account looks to be in a good shape!

It sounds like you might be having either an issue with your cache or a Anti-Tracking / Anti-Spam / Anti-Virus

If this is a cache issue this is what might help fix it.

1. Logout from World Anvil

2. Clear you browser's cache

3. Hard Refresh your page

4. Log back in

If the issue does persist this might be an issue with  an  Anti-Tracking / Anti-Spam / Anti-Virus  software blocking parts of world anvil

we will need to check if the issue is with the local machine

- Try disabling all software like Norton etc.

- Try using the same browser in Incognito mode (normally disabled any plugins and extensions)

- Try using a different browser

if it continues

- Use a mobile phone on a 4G/5G network so see if you can access the website with al your features activated

If you still need help please let me know

Hey there Dimitris,

I logged out from World Anvil, cleared browser cache, hard refresh then logged back in. No change unfortunately.

I turned off my antivirus and VPN software, hard refresh then tried logging back in. No change.
I tried using the same browser in incognito mode, no change.
I usually use Chrome, but tried Edge and Opera. No change.

I did try my phone on a 5G network and was finally able to change the article title without it insisting I didn't have the permissions.

Any thoughts on how I can get the site to work on my computer?

Cheers,

Khryses

Can you please provide us with a clear way of reproducing this on your account?

Khryses @ 24 Nov, 2025 12:06:11

Hi Dimitris,

It sounds like it may be related to my PC in some way (given that it works fine on my phone), so I'm not sure you will be able to reproduce this on your side.

The steps I take are:

  • Enter Article
  • Rename existing article / create new article / create new category
  • Guild Feature Required: You've tried to update a field you do not have access to. You must update your guild membership to use this!

I have tried "click here to fix this", but there is no impact.

Any chance you have an adBlocker or

Zillian @ 09 Dec, 2025 06:27:26

I am experience this bug myself as well. And I does have an adBlocker. Is it what cause the bug?   Edit: It seems to work once I turned it off for worldanvil.com

Zillian @ 10 Dec, 2025 04:11:22

Update: Still doesn't work despite that I have turned Adblocker off

I am experiencing this bug as well. My friends are able to edit the world without any problems even on my laptop, but when I am signed into my account I will get this pop up.

CobyThinks @ 04 Feb, 2026 12:03:45

I've been having this on articles with a higher wordcount. It's also only been on articles where I have a table of contents, but those are the only differences between articles where I get the alert and articles where I don't. Usually happens when I go into a new paragraph or block either to edit or continue writing, or mid-autosave. It doesn't stop the autosave from completing once I close the pop-up, and it allows me to continue editing, it's just incredibly disrupting and frustrating when I'm trying to be productive especially because it'll happen three times in a row, and then not again for a good 5-10 minutes so I'll get back into the flow just to be interrupted again.

This has been happening on my macbook while working out of the house, I haven't written on my pc recently so I'm not sure if it would also happen there. So, if there's an association with those captured public wifi networks or hot spots, that might be relevant? I can try to see if it triggers on my home network in a few hours when I get back. EDIT: the pop-up hasn't shown up while working for a few hours on my home network. Not sure if that was the problem or if it's a coincidence, but thought I'd add that information here in case it helps.

I've restarted my laptop, logged out of worldanvil and in again, cleared browser caches, and turned off ad and tracker blockers with no success. Selecting the 'fix this' prompt reloads my article, but resuming writing just triggers the alert again within a few minutes.

A number of changes have been deployed in the past few days so we would like an update if you are all still experiencing this issue

GinaElizabeth @ 23 Mar, 2026 11:09:39

I just started using World Anvil today and have received this error message multiple times. I've followed the guidelines listed above with no fix to the problem. It kicks me out meaning whatever I recently was working on was deleted. It's affecting my experience to the point I'm questioning whether World Anvil is for me.

GrelandDM @ 29 Mar, 2026 10:37:25

Just started experiencing this issue, but got it 3 times so far within the past ~1hr of working on a page with containers, after never experiencing it before.

katerinach @ 31 Mar, 2026 10:22:58 Developer

Hi GrelandDM, can you tell me which article or category you were editing when this happened and where you were editing your content? Specifically, was it in a modal or in the Articles & World Manager or the Old Version Edit page? This will help us isolate the issue!

drunkenpanda951 @ 20 Apr, 2026 09:58:17

I had the same message appear multiple times while working on my Adventure April article. https://www.worldanvil.com/w/iltahamara-drunkenpanda951/a/missing-memories-and-stolen-shadows-plot

It seems to happen most often when I was editing things inside of a spoiler. Editing text in both the spoilers in the columns and the stand alone spoiler right before them will throw the error for me. It seems like it usually happens when i click back over from another window or tab and directly start editing something in the spoiler, but it has happened once or twice without me having another window open as well,

drunkenpanda951 @ 20 Apr, 2026 10:22:02

I was in the Euclid editor while it was happening to me

CobyThinks @ 29 Apr, 2026 03:21:38

I am really at a loss when it comes to this bug. It's been on and off for months now, and today I can't get through one sentence in a basic general article without this popup interrupting me. Stuff that's part of the free version is now saying I don't have the right guild subscription, randomly without any clear reason. On my home network, on my hotspot, on my work network. In customized articles, and in general articles with nothing but a few paragraphs of writing, in statblocks, etc. Visual editor, macbook air. I love worldanvil, but this is seriously impacting my ability to be productive.

One thing that should fix this until we have a better solution
- Press F12
- Go to Application
- Go to Storage
- Press clear site data
- Refresh

I am updating this report to reflect the current status, as we've had multiple reports of the same issue and are investigating.

I can report that from every user account I have checked, the modal popping up is an error - all account features available per tier are working, the message is just popping up when it should not. We do currently have a potential fix that we are testing to ensure it does not have unintended side effects.

In the meantime, disregard the "Upgrade Required" error message (I know it is distracting/annoying, and we are working on a fix for it)
