Council Meeting

Tonight they told me it was time I go on a journey. They said it was time I go out and see the world, to explore things outside our village. My parents stood there watching as the elders gave me the news. My father, Varis, stood there watching, stone-faced and unreadable as always while my mother, Sariel, looked on with concern. "You will leave at dawn Caiphyra," Arannis said as he and the rest of the council sat watching me like a hawk. "Once you have traveled for a time you may come back and show us the knowledge and skills you have learned". The council nodded at us and with that we were dismissed.
 
"What an honor, Caiphyra, to be chosen for such a journey." mother said, trying to sound positive.
"You will learn a lot on your journey and gain many skills. If you do not, you will dishonor not only yourself but your family." father stated as we walked home. Walking between them, I remained silent. The Council made it seem like this was to be a pilgrimage of sorts. I knew the truth though and my father's words only confirmed it. This is closer to a banishment than a pilgrimage. Thankfully the walk was short and when we got home I went straight to my room, ignoring my siblings and their questions.
