Gas Spores, Unicorns and Duergar... Oh My!

The cries of terror we heard were linked to one of the Svirfneblin that had been separated from their group. Upon investigating through a peek hole, there were 3 gas spores terrorizing the gnome. Volkin didn't want to wait for a plan, so Anarion obliged him by opening the doors allowing him to kill 2 of the gas spores floating and Wil and Obsidian flew in on thier brooms to recover the gnome.
 
Beating a quick retreat, the last spore was killed by Shragnaz' firebolt and Volkin's double axe throw. After recovering the gnome and dispatching the last gas spore, the group settled down to finally get a long rest. During watch, Anarion talked to Willhelmina about their newfound friend, and speculated on his motivations for being with the group and whether or not he would continue to assist.
 
During Volkin's watch, Anarion spent some time learning some foraging skill from him, and also a little more about his background and tried to get some information on what he was hunting. There was little insight to be gleaned in such a short time, but there is hope a further relationship can be built and Shadow Watch can have a new ally in the Underdark.
 
After the rest, returned to where the gas spores were to investigate and Obsidian found the chest the Svirfneblin had mentioned. Shragnaz checked for traps, and not finding any, opened the chest. Within he identified a potion of healing of some kind, a bag of mychonid powder of some kind, and rubies and emeralds valued at 2,000 gp. Two gems were given to Volkin for his help in the encounter with the gas spores.
 
Following this discovery, the group, led by Volkin made it back to the gnome encampment as the Svirfneblin wished to return. Volkin's skills got the party back with no incidents.
