Conversation with my Reach. 2021/01/28

by Elliot Savage

I sold my bow and arrows, and got a shield. Hopefully that will help if we have to fight any acid spitting bugs again.

I took the money we got from saving the reach and used it to get a fine armor smith to modify my armor to make it more flexible and comfortable.

I was searching the libraries when I heard from one of Sala's servants that he was discussing a job with a man that came by our apartments.

When I arrived I was informed that the man's name was Gilbert. A scribe who worked at the Suffrage or records in Oceanguard.

He was trying to help the Pael Eye rescue lady Elandra (the Magen terrorist), but she was killed before the plan could be achieved.

She was torn limb from limb...

Officially she was executed, but that was not supposed to be done yet, nor in that manner.

Gilbert is convinced the Pael Eye is going to kill him for failing them, and wants us to prove he was not involved.

Sala agreed to investigate this oddity, so we're going to Oceanguard.

The path was stranger than normal. A woman's spirit came to us in the Pael on the path to Oceanguard, and spoke to us:
"Even perfect breaks"

Gilbert seems to be very uneasy about travel in the Pael. Apparently he doesn't travel much.

One of the flying creatures we saw earlier charged straight as Lucas, but dissipated as it crossed the path.

We found our way into a long hallway, but lost Sala. Hopefully he stayed on the path, but just fell behind.
He should turn up in a day or two.

The hallway was lined with doors. Creatures broke out of the doors and managed to get onto the path.
They chased us for a while, but we made it to Oceanguard.

We arrived at the gate, where we were met a record keeper.

Red Jim told them he was Robert. (He must have made some enemies here last time he was here.)

I got some kind of magical mark, and they told me I could stay for 3 days.

We were reminded to check in with our agitor each day. Oceanguard seems really stick with their rules.

Jim went to the Crushed Petal to see what he could find out. Said to meet him there in an hour.

Lucas and I went to the hall of records to look for the execution order.

We paid for entry, but couldn't afford assistance. Lucas went to find Jim, as we thought this might take a while.

When I arrived at the hall of records, you wouldn't believe what I found.

The symbols in the hall of record were nearly identical to the catalog system used in the library.

I wonder if, at some point in the past someone from the library came here...

I found the execution record.
The name on the record was Ivan. That name did not appear anywhere else.
Ivan is listed as 4th agitor Civil order of the 5th suffrage.

I went back to get Jim and Lucas, but they were on the way to see the remains of Elandra.

I managed to catch up to them before they arrived.

We examined the corpse pieces.

Clearly she was torn apart, but the bruising on her wrist looks like she was already dead when it happened.

Someone was trying to cover something up, but how did she die?

Lucas tried to get one of the guards to help us find Lucas, and nearly got us arrested I think.

But the guard eventually relented and took us to the offices.

We were met, not by Ivan, but by Raya, Paragon of Oceanguard.

She was investigating the death as well, and seemed to have nothing to go on.

But now that she had us, she was grilling us for information.

We were told that we would be placed in prison, to be released if the investigation showed us to be uninvolved.
(I may need to find new friends if mine keep getting me locked up.)

Red Jim tried to impersonate someone else, but apparently got sloppy. He is going to be executed at dawn for being part of the Pael Eye.

So, now I might be in even more trouble that I thought...
