Sadness and hope

by Will Grubb

My journey continuous from Rowanhold, after nearly meeting my end at the spear of a goblin (which will haunt me for many years). After our patron allowed us to take some trophies, we continued our journey towards the King, only to be stopped along the way by a young boy. In tears, he asked us to save his father, and as the heroes that we are, we did so with great valor. In exchange for a handsome sum of silver, we agreed to help the young lad and his father cross the dangers of Mirkwood. After a quick meeting with some Elvenfolk, we headed forward with our journey until we were well and deep inside the Mirkwood forest. Whilst resting, our travelling companion lost his mind and ran deep into the forest full of dangers. With bravery at our side, we chased after the man, only to find him captured by giant spiders. Luckily, the expert skills of our young and brave Hobbit helped the group with freeing the traumatized man and reuniting him with his mournful son. While packing up to go, the young boy noticed his missing amulet. Unfortunately, no one seemed to have found said amulet and the party decided to return once more after bringing both son and father to safety. Traveling onward, a big storm prevented the fellowship from gaining any further ground, thus they decided to hide within a seemingly abandoned home. But when the disillusioned man returned, a brief struggle resulting from bad communication ended with our young Hobbit trying to knock out the poor man. Unfortunately, I did foresee the poor condition this man was in. Alas, we discovered his life to have faded away, dampening our spirit in the process. The young boy became especially distressed by seeing what happened. But not all hope was lost, for that same young boy cried out in happiness the next day when he discovered that his amulet had returned. Was this a simple misplacement of the object, or a clever little ruse by a kindhearted Hobbit? You may never learn the truth (wink).
