Session 4, Pt1 - Battle at Zelkor's Ferry

by Aerendyl Shadowglen

Ah, Zelkor's Ferry. Quite a charming little township. We had just finished celebrating our latest victory over the castle with a rather boisterous party. Our spirits were high after a night of raucous celebration. The castle was ours, a victory worth toasting with the finest ales and the company of the town's most delightful women. But, as dawn broke, chaos ensued. A cry of alarm shattered the peaceful morning, arrows raining from the sky like a hailstorm. The town was under attack, besieged by a horde seeking retribution? A raid? Difficult to tell, but only a fool would think them an easy target.

Our orcish companions charged headlong into the fray, a sight both impressive and terrifying. The mage, ever the showman, summoned a shield of arcane energy that shimmered around him like a second skin. The air was thick with tension, the stench of blood and iron choking the air. Then, a sound echoed through the battlefield - a monstrous, ear-splitting squeal that could only have come from one creature: a boar. But not just any boar, oh no. This was a were-boar. And it was on our side! The enemy was relentless, their ranks swelling with cultists who scaled our walls, tendrils whipping from their forms. I took aim, loosing an arrow that missed its mark. Mosh, my fellow archer, fared no better with his first shots, but we did not waver. We were not deterred. The cleric, Brognarhl, imbued his mace with divine light, his face a mask of determination. Ungrot, ever reliable, landed a hit against the enemy leader, a blow that sent him sprawling. As for Kreeg, he cast a spell that ensnared the invaders in a sticky web. I took to the rooftops, my nimble feet carrying me up the castle walls with ease. From this vantage point, I could see everything. I watched as the enemy wizard tried to strike Kreeg, only for his magic to fizzle out. I heard the cries of panic and fear from the townsfolk and chaos outside the walls.
And then, it was my turn. With an aim as true as any hawk's, I let loose an arrow that found its mark in the enemy leader's eye. As he fell, I couldn't help but shout a taunt to the rest of his ilk. “You’ve come here to die!” We fought like hell, and it was clear that the tide was turning in our favor.

One by one, the enemy fell, their numbers dwindling with every passing moment. And then, the unexpected happened. Ungrot, in his eagerness, slipped and tumbled over the wall. He landed outside the safety of our fortress, the enemy wizard toppling onto him. From my perch, I surveyed the battlefield and watched the were-boar, Odo, tearing through the enemy ranks, their attacks doing nothing to slow his rampage. I swung to a different tower, using my grapple to get a better view. Our cleric healed his wounds and joined the rest of us on the wall, his mace at the ready. Ungrot, undeterred by his fall, dispatched the wizard who had fallen on him with a single blow. Kreeg cast another web, this time trapping the enemy's leadership. Odo, the were-boar, was struck by a magic missile. But he was a beast, and a single spell wasn't enough to bring him down. The enemy leader, a coward at heart, teleported away, abandoning his men to their fate. Our bard sang a song of valor, a melody so captivating it left the enemy unable to fight. The cleric dropped from the wall, his mace smashing into a bandit with deadly force. Ungrot took out the enemy wizard, still entranced by the bard's song. We captured the enemy leader, a man named Hambone, and took his armor as a trophy. We interrogated him, learning of the cultists' plans and their base of operations. They wanted the glitter kobold child we had saved, a fact that only fueled our resolve. After a well-deserved rest, we geared up for our next adventure. I got myself a new crossbow, ready and eager for whatever lay ahead. Dungeons, dragons, cultists - bring them on. For I am Aerendyl Shadowglen, and no foe can stand against me.
