All’s Well That Ends Well

by Daretti Da Vinky

I’m goin’ to try to keep this short, but a lot of weird shit went on today. So we get to the Karno compound and the folks are plenty friendly. They pointed us to the direction of the well and there it was. No undead monsters, no sign of necromancy, nothing! It even had its own ladder leading into it. Well we got down to the bottom of it and there was a passageway you could see clear as day! Those kind folks forgot to mention that. But sure we pressed on and found a room with a bunch of kobolds. Kobolds! My mom and pop would tell me story about these folks living with them back on the goblin homeland Nimblewick. But here they were, husks, dead for who knows how long. Real peculiar, I’ll have to ask someone from Nimblewick about this. Not my dad though, he can eat a bag of rusty nails. We found a secret passage to another room with a sign congratulating us for not going into the previous room. Suddenly Elaria gets slimed by...a slime. Poor girl went down almost immediately, but a quick twist of my wrench and she was back up in fighting shape. I was already sick of this place, but the next room had the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Skeletons were playing some sort of weird game and placing bets. Well that was a door that I immediately closed. Some doors are better off closed and never revisited. That’s right Daretti, suppressing those bad thoughts and emotion! Put em’ in a box. Anyway through the next room there was a table with weird writing and plates that suddenly “poof” had some food appear on it. It was Momma’s Gnocchi, fresh and piping hot. This dungeon was really breakin’ my balls. Erastus ended up stepping up to the plate and eating his dish which ended up being some important spiced goat. The door to the next room opened and our food was gone. A little bit of regret did wiggle it’s way into my heart seeing mom’s specialty disappear. Next room had a chest and Elaria and I cracked it open. Elaria’s a good kid, very excitable. I think we’re the same age, but they always called me an old soul. Eh fuggedaboutit. Armitage found this book that nearly swiped his face off and out came the wizard Wam! We told him about the late Dorothy and Ozma, but all he wanted to do was party, so he left his book and booked it out of the dungeon. Sheesh, I agree with Erastus’s sentiment. He’s a dick. Oh yeah that chest. It had a Belt of Teleportation. Real fancy and jeweled. I could sense the magic oozing off of it. Do I want to return it to the royal family? I’ll think about it.

With our task done, we went back up to the surface and enjoyed a feast with the locals. That feast was scrumptious with good folks and lotsa laughs. One of them inquired about new methods for getting water to their crops and I had to break it to them. They’re going to need a pump, or they’re going to have to move. The Karno Compound isn’t near any streams or rivers or bodies of water. This is a real bad spot for a budding village. I’d like to come back in a while after I’ve made some more money and learned a few things to help these folks. Maybe, I’d like to come back with Armitage, Malth, Erastus, and Elaria...Even though our job with the map is over, the laughs and the trouble that I’ve experienced with them is something I don’t want to end. I’m going to ask them if they want to travel together. Maybe they can even help me crack Mom’s cipher.
