Conflicting Opinions

by Romenor Lathalis

Well turns out I was correct in assuming some members of the Wood Cutters Guild turned to robbing their own kind. I can only imagine the mental gymnastics these people must have gone through to think stealing shipments from other members of the guild would lead to any significant change in the upper management of the guild structure. It is very fortunate that it was our Unit that was sent to handle this as I think any other squad of soldiers would have slaughtered them all on the side of the road. They do seem to be blinded by their hate of the Guild Leader as there wasn't any recognition of the position they put themselves into. After incapacitating over half their numbers and then Thrazmoc's single attack almost fatally wounding one of their own they still did not appreciate that our Unit had the upper hand. They went as far as to suggest we were prisoners after we voluntarily laid down our arms. This group is desperate and blinded by their cause. I have deep pity for the position they are in, but I do fully realize what they are being put through is unjust.

Danis says we are tools for the King's Court. That we fallow orders, do as we are told, and fulfill the missions that are provided to us. When we were assigned this job I imagined it as something similar to hero's for hire. Our Unit would be the one's responsible for taking on tasks too dangerous for the common soldier and protect the people of this land. Everything leading up to this mission has been hinting at this path and it's only now that I feel my opinion swaying. I'm happy to receive orders to take down monsters or bandits that may be harassing those on the road but when it turns out that those committing the banditry turns out the be the oppressed people of the land I can't help but pause. Is it right for our Unit to stomp a resistance like this out? Is it Just?

I am relieved that we are pursuing the trail of corruption laid before us. All second hand evidence is pointing towards the Guild Leader, Keldon, as having committed acts of corruption for his own personal gain. To have any real proof we will need first hand or physical evidence of his crimes which comes with a great risk to ourselves and the people of the wood cutters guild. All of our actions from this point further are dependent on the reliability of Gwendolyn Glorybluff's claims that the evidence is locked in Keldon's office. If she is incorrect then we may be forced to flee Murray. I do not fully understand this women. She is young, spirited and fights for what she believes in and yet I can't help but dislike her. Maybe it is her youth that makes her so prideful, or possibly the adversity of being a young single mother. No matter the case she is brash with us and can't seem to word her request for aid without putting on an air of superiority towards us. I am a little surprised that Danis did not walk away from the mission of helping these people rather than just taking the information of the bandits back to the Master of Coin after being slapped by Gwendolyn. If it wasn't for Riggu I would have left the meeting abruptly as well. In fact Riggu seems to be the cornerstone of the entire district and I believe without his presence their may have been a more significant uprising long before these events. I will need to observe further to see the full ramifications of his presence in these parts to have a better understanding of how a simple barkeep came to have such authority here. Maybe he would be a suitable replacement for a disposed Keldon? Would be valuable to have a replacement immediately available if we do end up finding evidence of Keldon's corruption.

I do hope that our Unit can find some common ground with Gwendolyn. With the current conflict between us I fear that our teamwork may be compromised going into this next stage of the mission. While our team is still new I feel that we are taking steps towards working around each others strengths and weaknesses. Throwing in a hot headed person such as Gwendoyln will certainly shake things up and maybe not for the best. I'm hope that dawn will shine on us favorable tomorrow.
