The Life of Captain Antoinette Mokyza ‘Gold’ Cadieux — by Captain Antoinette Mokyza ‘Gold’ Cadieux; shipwright, procurer of wealth. I: The Circumstances of my Youth.

by Captain Antoinette Mokyza Cadieux

I was hatched to human parents, Padgett and Trinetta Cadieux whom I now know that they were not my true parents. When I and the other dragonborn children reached tutoring age it was arranged that we should attend a private academy, adhering to a strict, military schedule of training and indoctrination, to speak frankly. We were well-fed and encouraged to grow strong. I was close with some of the other children; Marie was a dear friend to me and Margot, a dear rival.
The fabric of my life began to fray as I approached my coming of age. The other children slowly disappeared until the day that Marie came to me, begging for help. Centurions were soon upon us and we were taken to a nightmarish chamber. There many of my friends were restrained, forced by foul magics to lay eggs. Before we could be caged like the others our guards were slain by Margot. Surprising myself, in a rage I breathed my first fire, breaking my bonds. Margot pulled me from the chamber, without allowing me to go back for the still-bound Marie. I collapsed, I believe, before we escaped the academy and awoke adrift at sea on a small sailing boat. Nailed to the mast was the following message:

"Antoinette,
I hope this note finds you alive. The current should have
already taken you far away by now. Follow the setting sun west to the
islands of Scatterhome. I’m sorry we couldn’t get everyone out,
I did my best. I hope to meet you again. For now, I give you the gift
of the world. I regret that we weren’t friends.
With admiration,
Margot"
