Captain's Personal Log - SS Good Times II

Pandya Orbital – Aseni Republic of Vega
The Cincastrellan "gift" keeps gnawing at me. That data crystal they gave us after the Galvao mess supposedly holds coordinates to a Cazador-class parts cache. Military-grade salvage just sitting in some dead drop in the depths of Jred Space, waiting to be claimed. Too good to be true? Absolutely. Too tempting to ignore? Unfortunately not.
Medium-Term Objectives:
Implement Aidan's "psionic vibe check" protocol (pending his recovery)
Develop Beñat's proposed passenger screening matrix
Avoid bankruptcy before we reach the Jred Frontier
Today's fiscal bandaids:
3 tons of data cores (15k credits)
26 tons of outbound hardwood (purchased at 650cr/ton)
Lucid's family bank account

Zincfyd Mining's company town makes Greg's World look cosmopolitan. A hundred thousand souls slowly turning the planet into Neoswiss cheese. We offloaded mail (8 tons - light for a Guild run) and refueled without incident.
Notable Omission:
Didn't sell the wood (Byzantion prices better)
Didn't mention our last nanobot incident to customs

Genevieve's voice crackled over the comms: "GT-Two, you're cleared for Bay 12. Try not to track asteroid dust on my nice clean docks this time." The way she works customs, you'd think she owns the port authority. Just a curt nod from the inspectors and we slid through like regulars.
Sold the wood at 1050cr/ton - a respectable markup.
Evening with Gen:
Her apartment smelled like real Old Earth basil and that nice perfume I smuggled for her one of my previous runs. I cooked gnocchi in her apartment, we caught up on spaceport gossip, and I asked if there was any odd jobs I could do.
Funny thing. There was!
So it turns out her journalist friend Aksu Syl has powerful enemies on Khagan. The kind that make corporate assassins look polite, from what I gather. (and here I was imagining something a little more direct and low-profile, like some customs rules to be bent or interpreted creatively)

The rest of the crew wasn't idle yesterday. Beñat acquired a psi-detector (looks like a toaster with anxiety). Aidan stocked up on suppressants - the psionic kind, not the orbital bombardment kind. I mention "the Syl Sitch". "The situation with Syl", I have to clarify.
After her shift, Genevieve came aboard the
Good Times II for proper negotiations, since this was more than what I was aiming for, but I'm genuinely interested in helping her friend. After some calls made to who knows who, Gen's able to offer: transport (saves us 400k in fuel), a flat 100k fee for Syl's safe retrieval, and moral satisfaction (priceless, but doesn't pay repairs or fuel)
We're agreed: Worth the detour if we park the
Good Times safely here. Though I'm starting to suspect "quiet mail runs" are a statistical impossibility for this crew.
