325 Gold Pieces to Sass Me

by Helm Oakthought

Currently the Harpers are trying to find us safe travel through the Trackless Sea, hopefully the crew will have more courage than the rest of the sailors here. In yet another shocking turn of events, Zug actually WANTS to go to a library. She's a raging barbarian from the wilds and she had to convince me she understood what a library was and wanted to be there. We part ways with Ines and Jean-Guy as they continue their investigation with the Harpers and start our long day of research.

It has been a challenge. A part from trying to keep Zug entertained with picture books and maps I can find little relavent information on the onset of our review but it becomes rudely interrupted by a memory best forgotten. Ramkin Shackle, the upstart soldier whom challenged me, his superior, in front of all the nobility. He brought two of his cronies with him on patrol; again, really weird crowd getting drawn to the library today. Apparently Ramkin noticed me moving around Waterdeep and followed me here so he could try and dress me down in public. The swine forgot that I was as quick with my tongue as I am with my sword. He's still hungry to fight me. Strange though... Zug and I noticed a symbol on his armor that was caught in certain light. It was a symbol to Loviatar

Found information on the Trackless Sea, there are large islands that get rocked by storms frequently. Between the major settlements of Faerun and Chult it's not too dangerous but beyond that it can be very deadly.

After a fair bit of reading we return to the Yawning Portal and meet an old friend at long last: Pheonix, the assassin we befriended after we prevented her from assassinating council members in another city. Aside from a lot of banter and sarcasm she was unwilling to assist us on our quest. I spent 325 gold for a few minutes of conversation and sarcastic quips.

Zug was able to find some information about a weird cult she is looking into. That riverboat captain had an octopus symbol burned into his neck before he was possessed and died:

Cult of the Kraken, a god called Slackerthall, a Mythically powerful kraken

The captain of our boat to the trackless sea is a "no nonsense" man named "Flotion"... He has a sprite first mate named "Arrow". I suppose if I die on this ship I'll know that this journey is going to be full of nonsense.

6 days. 6 days of this shit. The Captain is drier than a ration, and I feel like Arrow has "seen things"... on the 6th day it jumped the shark in expectations. We found a ship, shaped like a squid with a skull, loaded with 4 ballistas to our 1. Now we wait until nightfall to slide quite alongside this massive ship and swing over.

A thin crescent moon is the only light source against the water. Two boats share a horizon, all lanterns out. The Morkoth, the squid vessel we chase, begin to fire at us with their ballista and their crew is manned by undead covered in sea life. we dart through the waters and man the ropes. Swinging over in a frenzy we find King Hecketon.
