Physical Description
Hinoka has purple eyes and long black, raven-colored hair, which she keeps tied in a high ponytail with a length of lavender cord gifted to her by her mother before she joined the academy. Her bangs are long and side swept, framing her face. She wears a standard shihakushō with a royal purple sash around her shoulders, held together by a moon-shaped clip. The sash holds her Zanpakutō’s sheath in place on her back. Under her standard Shinigami uniform, she wears a uniform similar to the commander-in-chief of the Onmisukidō, which has no sleeves and doesn’t cover the back. The uniform was adapted by the Akamatsu clan for rigorous kidō training. She wears fingerless black tekkō which extend past her elbows and a lavender obi, whether over her training uniform or her shihakushō.

Personal history
Hinoka was born into the Akamatsu Clan, and grew up in the Akamatsu Family Manor in the Seireitei. From the very beginning, she was surrounded by the Gotei as the mansion was also home to the headquarters of the 5th Division, traditionally captained by the head of the Akamatsu Clan. Various elders in her family taught her throughout her life, from the basic subjects such as literature and math into more complex subjects such as strategy and kidō. Countless hours were spent training with her father, Gakuto, and her grandfather, Hakaru Akamatsu, in the demon arts, being pushed far beyond her limits as her father trained her the same way he would his squad members. This often involved standing in front of a wall, unflinching, as her father threw high-level hadō and bakudō at her from across the training grounds. From this training, her resolve was unwavering, and she refused to back down from most fights. Her father was considered as crazy and dangerous as Captain Kenpachi Zaraki, but with the added expertise in kidō.
When not suffered through her father’s maniac training, Hinoka would often spend time with her grandfather and mother, Asuna Akamatsu, learning the hobbies of the noble families, such as prose and calligraphy, while also learning the strategic art of Shogi. Her various teachings and training were preparing her to eventually take her place as the head of the Akamatsu Clan, as her father and grandfather had before her. While she did not mind the path to being a clan head, she strayed from the idea of eventually becoming the captain of the 5th Division. Her aspirations, much like her father’s, lie in eventually becoming a captain in the Gotei, but her motivations and nature led her more towards the healing arts like her mother.
While the Akamatsu Clan was large, Hinoka often received her trainings and teachings alone. Kidō was an area of expertise exercised by her clan, but many refused to practice or learn the demon arts with her. She was shunned by those in the branch families due to the mixture of her blood. The Akamatsu Clan was a long line of powerful Shinigami elves, but her mother was the sole testament against that lineage. While her mother was human, Asuna Akamatsu had ended her career in the Gotei as the Third Seat of the 4th Division. She had potential to go further but had chosen to retire in order to raise her daughter and assist the clan. She was well-known and respected by the rest of the clan as she ran the daily operations of the clan while Gakuto tended to his captain’s duties. Asuna Akamatsu also served as the 5th Division’s personal healer, assisting and watching kidō trainings in order to ensure the welfare of those in the squad.
The respect that her parents had earned and were given in the clan did not apply to Hinoka. Many shunned her while others attempted to compete against her in hopes that when Gakuto stepped down as the clan head, they may be in line over Hinoka, bringing pride and great status to one of the branch families. The branch families stemmed from her grandfather’s adopted brother and wished to have the respect and renown that Gakuto had, and the only way to get it may be to upstage Hinoka. Her cousin, Junzo Akamatsu, had competed with her throughout their lives, in hopes of doing just that.
Her early years were spent learning her noble duties and various other things with people such as Kaien Shiba and Miyako Shiba, Kanna Ikeda, and other nobles that were younger than her father. With most of the Akamatsu Clan ignoring her, Hinoka didn’t have friends as much as she had mentors. She got along well with her father’s lieutenant, Shinji Hirako, also learning various kidō from him as well. These mentors taught her what they could, often saving the brunt of their teachings for her expected time in the academy. Most of her time was spent with her grandfather, as his kindness was a tremendous relief from the strict kidō training her father insisted on.
Personality
As the daughter of the Head of the Akamatsu Clan, Hinoka is required to act in an aristocratic manner but often ignores many of the formalities that are required of her. She is generally mature and serious, preferring not to draw unnecessary attention to herself, although her status often dictates that she is close to, if not the center of people’s attention. She refuses to follow in the path of arrogance that her father is on, choosing to follow the more optimistic and independent route that her grandfather preaches. She is similar to her mother in that she is extremely caring, sensitive, and kind, while she is very perceptive and fully aware of the limits of her abilities like her father. While she has a kind-hearted side, her temper is slow brewing and when it reaches its boiling point, her determination and resolve to see things righted are unrivaled.
She has a somewhat complex set of honor, sometimes seeking to exact revenge for the cruel actions of her opponent if they have managed to flare her temper. While believing that taunts and belittling are beneath her, she sometimes attacks without warning. Hinoka has a strong desire to win her fights, but in a way that she views as a legitimate manner. To this end, she has often refused to use her full range of kidō, even when knowing it would allow her to win. Her resolve is unwavering as she refuses to live in the shadow of her captain father.
Hinoka has demonstrated that she is perceptive when it comes to people’s mental and emotional state, especially regarding her parents, as she is able to tell what kind of driving force is pushing someone. She has a stronger connection to her mother than her father, tending towards the healing arts and more classical noble musings other than dueling or fighting. She enjoys playing Shogi with her grandfather and learning about kidō and its history through the archives for which her grandfather serves as caretaker. Her mother taught her calligraphy and ikebana, which is how she tends to spend her evenings and free time.
