Edelgard Greycastle | World Anvil

Edelgard Greycastle

Bathed in the spray of the open ocean is where Edelgard Greycastle feels most at home. Her life on the shore was suffocating, but the sea brings freedom as much as it brings obedience.

Hello and welcome!   My name is K.T., but many of you know me as RiverFang.   I work in the historic trifecta (archives, museums, and libraries, oh my!), with degrees in History, Creative Writing, and Library & Information Sciences, but worldbuilding and writing are by far some of my greatest passions.   You can often find me writing with my husband, Shiftrex, as we work to build the worlds and gaming systems that we want to write and play in.   Our worlds are those of fantasy, swords and sorcery, and great tragedies and triumphs. Isekai is our current and most robust project, and is the most often updated of our worlds.

No Longer At Sea

by Edelgard Greycastle

Leaving the Raging Tempest had not been my intention, but at the urging of the Captain, I did. He always spoke of how the sea was not meant for a bright girl like me and I always fought against that, having known only the sea for most of my life. Life on land was not something that I had ever really wanted, but the Captain, like always, knew far better than I did. I took his blessing and wore it as a good luck charm, hoping to keep me from harm as I went into the land. But damn it all if it didn’t work. The Tempest was a wench on the worst of days, but nothing compared to my first week on land.

Captain had pointed me to the Dagger Guild, pulling some strings with an old fishing buddy to get me into a caravan that would take me to someplace that I could begin to earn a decent living. That lead me to Marrowgrave, as far from the sea as I could be but still in the center of a deadly storm.

You know what we don’t have at sea? Trolls! The big ugly brutes that tear down and eat anything they can get their hands on. Sure the mermaids and sirens can be a pain, but nothing like the stinking body of a large troll. Names matter little in instances like this as I didn’t have the chance to learn the names of my companions before we were knee-deep in the temple and then fighting a troll. I really must thank the Captain when I see him again because his push for me to learn the divine ways of the storm may have been one of the things that saved us.

One troll down, but I don’t think my time in Marrowgrave will be that simple. The sea is unpredictable, but maybe the land is just the same.
