Personal history

Shadow is the oldest of nine in his litter, and the only male. His parents run a successful trade business and shop. They specialize in all kinds of magical items and equipment. Eventually his father wanted Shadow to take over the business, as per tradition of the Nantō-bu Isles. Shadow feeling immense pressure to be great at this decided that he needed time to grow and learn before taking on this responsibility. With his parents' blessing he set out to explore the world in order to learn everything he needed to learn to be the man he needed to be.
 
Shadow, thusly, grew up well off. His parents were very loving and made sure that all of their litter had everything they needed to be successful at what they were destined to be.
 
Shadow was always very good at speed and sneaking. Thus he made quite an excellent scout for his family's excursions to find magical items and components to make more magical items at the family business.

Education

Shadow was well educated and trained in many languages. He has shown an aptitude to picking up and learning new languages. He was also trained in how to be better and sneaking and scouting, due to his natural affinity to such things.

Employment

Growing up, Shadow worked in his family's business. Whether as a store clerk, a scout, or many other ways to help the business.
 
Since leaving his home and setting out in the world, he has taken up mercenary jobs as a scout, in order to get by as he travels the world. He mostly helped different traders along his way, due to his close ties to the trading/merchant communities.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Shadow is an accomplished scout amongst his family and the Nantō-bu Isles. He received top marks in school and was quite accomplished in sports.

Failures & Embarrassments

Shadow is incredibly embarrassed that he was captured and marked for sacrifice for the Frostmaiden. He sees this as his greatest failure, but one that he plans to learn from and never allow anyone to be forced to be a sacrifice again.
 
Another failure in the eyes of Shadow, would be not being able to protect his sister Opal from their Uncle Claw. Claw cut off her arm from just below the elbow, during the battle to take over the family business. Luckily this was the only casualty during the fight. This was one of the main reasons he decided to leave home so that he could come back stronger and be able to protect the family from his Uncle Claw and any other invaders.
 
Shadow also sees that not being there for Z when they died as a failure.

Mental Trauma

Not being able to protect his sister Opal has caused some trauma to Shadow that didn't really get exposed until the loss of Z. Losing Z has brought a lot of grief to Shadow. They were like a brother to Shadow, and reinstated Shadow's inferiority complex of not being able to live up to his own expectations as a protector.

Shadow will take any measure to protect the ones he loves, the ones who need protection, and the ones that nobody loves. He is not afraid to kill if it means protecting the greater good, but he attempts to avoid doing so as much as possible.

Shadow is very sociable, but will sometimes pretend not to understand a language if he does not feel like socializing. He can get somewhat excitable when talking about subjects he is passionate about.
