Personal history

There is an old saying - it takes a village to raise a child. In my case, it was quite literal. My people have ancient traditions for everything from birth to burial. There is The Way To Go About Things when a child is orphaned - but nobody, apparently, had ever considered what Way To Go About Things should a foundling ever cross their path. Nobody particularly wanted a strange child to raise, so the only Way To Go About The Thing was for everyone to raise me. I learned to read and write from Cephus, to figure from Maron, to sing our tribe's tales from Denna. I learned to hunt and to fish from almost everyone, and to wash and to cook and to tend a fire from everyone else. And I learned to fight from...
 
That's odd. I don't remember learning how to fight. I don't like fighting. Abhor it, in fact. And I was told I must never fight unless it's absolutely necessary. But I *do* know the art of combat. And I suppose after all, if I am forced to admit it to myself, I enjoy it sometimes. Perhaps too much. I just can't recall who I learned from. How funny.
