Fright Night at the Stage

by Kaerwyd Leafbrush

What a night we had that day; my friend nearly died and knocked on Sinnara’s door because of this nightmarish creature, my other limb gets stabbed and slimy assassin almost had her way with the merchant king. Plus on our thorough search of the Opera house and disarming that dangerous chandelier with fire ball glyph attach to it AND verbal trigger on it, that could have been a disaster at any point. However, we were triumphant without any unwanted casualties and both Durantes alive.

But politics, bah. There’s been so many wars and violent incidents than I want to recall. Sooner or later there will be another one. It doesn’t matter who will starts it, there always going to be some cold greedy Van Hollow, proud King Lovesjel or some other wrong person believing to do the rightful thing. Bottom line seems to be that the common folk will suffer no matter what. Well, protecting the right persons might keep the peace for awhile.

Some might say that Mario Durante's itching for a good war, but daring to do that in front of his son’s wife Tarja Lovesjel – a dwarfness who’s Might even Hallberta could not ever match. Surpass in Wrath maybe, but not in power. Anyway, I believe Vincent Durante is the correct person leading Fourways; he loves the people’s attention and folk enjoying bread, circus and peace couldn’t love that kind of Merchant King any more. What he gains from war? Although would he be ready to kill for that title? Again, another daring to cross the Princess of Lion and dwarfish pride in rightfully earned kingship? If so, I really hope he has a bloody good reason. Politics, bah.

Furthermore, we got our proof that assassins were hired from Stonesigner by vice mayor Carrill Lorzon, and that’s good enough for me. Very handsomely paid too. Considering the creeps we had to fight, no wonder. A clown puppeteer, shallow assassin and elf vampire. The last two I saw face to face, first one stuck knife in me, and the last one could have killed Eldove.

We really fought for their money. The shallow just managed to slip away from us with a hair away from her defeat. Same with the clown that I never saw. But the nightmarish vampire haunts me. Those mad, red eyes. A sword I slide in his side could have killed normal man. And he went for Eldove. Gave her kiss of Death, as they say. Thankfully we had our clerics to get her up, and the beast paid its mistake with its live. Later we learned from Darwin that Beast left a mark on Eldove, a spot remaining undead. The same horror spreading on my good friend’s skin – think that same madness in her eyes – No, my apologies. I need to calm myself.

Okay, more cheerful topics. Treasures, gold, yes! We had gold from our job, even though we should have earned more from our troubles. Durante’s are swimming in gold and treasures in their luxuries palace, but alas, with that company my hands were tied, especially with Amariel there acting like the great mother she believes in. What about charity and feeding the poor? At least we manage to nick some magic infused tools from the assassins as bonus. A knife of cunning, gloves of scaling and a necklace of preparedness, all good. I only took the knife, I’m not that greedy. The masterful acrobat Kon proved to be worth of gloves in the hanging scaffolds against Shallow assassin, and necklace was more useful to Darwin. Was there something else? I feel I’m forgetting something valuable, but my memory plays tricks on me.

At the time it puzzled me what Sanra was doing at the Opera house day before. She operates more in Fourways than Stonesinger, she wasn’t one that stabbed me – that’s for sure – nor did I knew her being a golem-maker. In matter of fact, she ----
