Kaerwyd Leafbrush (a.k.a. Gnome Thief)

Arcane trickster Kaerwyd Leafbrush is a jolly gnome with bright intelligent eyes and a cunning smile. He doesn't pick fights with strangers, but he might fool people with a harmless illusion tricks. Drink, music and game of dice at the tavern are the usual enjoyment for Kaerwyd, while talks of grand heists, tricky traps and magical items interest him greatly.   Kaerwyd has extensive career as a thief and a pickpocket in Fourways bustling city state. Additionally he also works an a honest trap expert in dungeon crews searching for arcane wonders. Among thieves and dungeon delvers the bragging rights for stealing a marvelous price from a cocky lord or magical jewel swiped from dangerous dungeon are more important for this gnome thief than just the coin earned.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Politics is not Kaerwyd's favorite topic, but 3112 EF during the great war Fourways' navy building and hacking of his birth home, the great forest of South river banks sure left sour taste in his and other forest gnomes' mouths. Harsh reality forced gnomes to adapt, so most of them moved to Fourways' Golden Carnival as performers and some became thieves like Kaerwyd. Over decade later Merchant King Fransisco is killed and rumors among thieves told that the assassin used illusion magic. No-one actually suspected forest gnome's involvement, but Kaerwyd knew that one woman from his tribe, Sanra Sharpthorn had the motive, means and time to be part of that assassination. Kaerwyd and Sanra have bump heads with each other dozen times robbing the same mansions and dungeons (the score is 5-7 for Santra). While they have a playful rivalry, she can be extremely ruthless and heartless killer of humans and individuals with ill-intents. Kaerwyd would love Santra, if she wouldn't be so dangerous, and willing to cross lines that he wouldn't dare.

Education

Kaerwyd has no real education, but learning to read and write Common from wiser forest gnomes working in Fourways' Carnival district has provided useful ability. Literal skills have been fair enough for him to understand important financial bookings and political letters, when stolen from VIP-level targets. All complicated magical scrolls can be sold to any interested mages, since trickster can work his own magics.

Employment

The last four or so decades or so of his life Kaerwyd has live in the Streets of Fourways; stealing from rich snobs' pocket or houses, spending time with his fellow forest gnome at the Carnival district or other thieves in various places. Additionally, he has joined many dungeon delving crews that have been searching curious relics and magical items across Craterium continent. The treasures themselves have gone to employees possession, but trips provided enough entertainment and challenge for Kaerwyd to keep going back for adventures.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Never tell me the odds. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't do it. There can't be anything that I can't steal or get caught trying. Bigger the score, the more enthusiastic I will be. When pulling a big robbery heist or scheme, more the merrier. Forest gnomes are known to have their pals backs across tougher times

Virtues & Personality perks

I steal from the greedy and even out the twisted corruption in the poorer kingdom; an investment for the future, so to speak. Also, some magic items belongs in more responsible hands

Vices & Personality flaws

"It is the curiosity what kills the cat." I can't shake the urge to have a closer look at curious items hanging in the open, peek behind a massive closed door, or read those mysteries scrolls. A thief must know what items are worth stealing and what are not

Fright Night at the Stage

What a night we had that day; my friend nearly died and knocked on Sinnara’s door because of this nightmarish creature, my other limb gets stabbed and slimy assassin almost had her way with the merchant king. Plus on our thorough search of the Opera house and disarming that dangerous chandelier with fire ball glyph attach to it AND verbal trigger on it, that could have been a disaster at any point. However, we were triumphant without any unwanted casualties and both Durantes alive.   But politics, bah. There’s been so many wars and violent incidents than I want to recall. Sooner or later there will be another one. It doesn’t matter who will starts it, there always going to be some cold greedy Van Hollow, proud King Lovesjel or some other wrong person believing to do the rightful thing. Bottom line seems to be that the common folk will suffer no matter what. Well, protecting the right persons might keep the peace for awhile.   Some might say that Mario Durante's itching for a good war, but daring to do that in front of his son’s wife Tarja Lovesjel – a dwarfness who’s Might even Hallberta could not ever match. Surpass in Wrath maybe, but not in power. Anyway, I believe Vincent Durante is the correct person leading Fourways; he loves the people’s attention and folk enjoying bread, circus and peace couldn’t love that kind of Merchant King any more. What he gains from war? Although would he be ready to kill for that title? Again, another daring to cross the Princess of Lion and dwarfish pride in rightfully earned kingship? If so, I really hope he has a bloody good reason. Politics, bah.   Furthermore, we got our proof that assassins were hired from Stonesigner by vice mayor Carrill Lorzon, and that’s good enough for me. Very handsomely paid too. Considering the creeps we had to fight, no wonder. A clown puppeteer, shallow assassin and elf vampire. The last two I saw face to face, first one stuck knife in me, and the last one could have killed Eldove.   We really fought for their money. The shallow just managed to slip away from us with a hair away from her defeat. Same with the clown that I never saw. But the nightmarish vampire haunts me. Those mad, red eyes. A sword I slide in his side could have killed normal man. And he went for Eldove. Gave her kiss of Death, as they say. Thankfully we had our clerics to get her up, and the beast paid its mistake with its live. Later we learned from Darwin that Beast left a mark on Eldove, a spot remaining undead. The same horror spreading on my good friend’s skin – think that same madness in her eyes – No, my apologies. I need to calm myself.   Okay, more cheerful topics. Treasures, gold, yes! We had gold from our job, even though we should have earned more from our troubles. Durante’s are swimming in gold and treasures in their luxuries palace, but alas, with that company my hands were tied, especially with Amariel there acting like the great mother she believes in. What about charity and feeding the poor? At least we manage to nick some magic infused tools from the assassins as bonus. A knife of cunning, gloves of scaling and a necklace of preparedness, all good. I only took the knife, I’m not that greedy. The masterful acrobat Kon proved to be worth of gloves in the hanging scaffolds against Shallow assassin, and necklace was more useful to Darwin. Was there something else? I feel I’m forgetting something valuable, but my memory plays tricks on me.   At the time it puzzled me what Sanra was doing at the Opera house day before. She operates more in Fourways than Stonesinger, she wasn’t one that stabbed me – that’s for sure – nor did I knew her being a golem-maker. In matter of fact, she ----

Curse The Gambler for his bad luck

Dammit, I don't know if I should blame The Gambler or my clumsy performance for this day's misfortune. Or perhaps I should I thank chance for the lucky opportunities our misfitting adventure crew has gained   First of all, we have surprisingly gained the favor of Vincent Durante, Fourways iconic golden son after our successful mission on escorting Maester Auron from Merchants' Rest to here. Rumors seems to be true about this generous yet clever merchant prince, which makes me glad. Working aside Durante could be very profitable business, and all lawfully earned money that even Halla is extending her hand for a extra coin. Hah, that dwarf can't hide her greed under that hypocritical pride. We're in Fourways; money means survival to both rich and poor, nothing more and nothing less. I'm sure she will get that and would appreciate the art of cunning acquisitions.   Speaking of stealing and taking back rightfully owned relics, our eastern monk Kon now has one of the missing relics now in his possession, hurray! Although my own failure trying to steal that golden head ban left me with an arrow pinned leg and a dented pride. Damn Gambler, how that guard saw me climbing that curtain? Not my proudest moment in thief's career, but this gave Kon perfect opportunity to grab his treasure. While I had to make quick escape into alley ways - with ah arrow in my leg I must remind - always as resourceful Eldove turned invisible and took stolen relic for save keeping. Kon was momentarily arrested, but soon relished without anyone finding condemning evidence. Everyone gathers in our new safehouse with stolen relic and no-ones caught or have prices on their heads, job well done. Kon certainly wasn't afraid to get his hand dirty. Perhaps three of us together could pull an actual heist for the rest of the missing treasures and more!   Thankfully Amariel is a skilled healer, although rough at handling her patients. Still, it's better to have moment of painful medicine and scar to wear than arrow sticking in leg. Interestingly, she offered her help without asking so I'm guess she is warming up for me being part of the team, and not just a criminal tagging along. There's a kind heart under that huge stoic stonewall of a face, I can tell. She is a cleric of the great Mother after all. But I doubt she would be as willing to assist reclaiming Kon's lost treasures same way as he already did. On the other hand we have the second clergyman Darvin who's as reluctant as Amariel to bend his morals. However, the lad is simple in some aspects like the fact that he barely even reads. I could be clever about that, but I wouldn't want him to get angry. I've seen how hard he can smash those ghoul heads.   Four hundred gold coins at drop of a hat! Either Vincent's flighty generosity exceeds all rumors or Halla worked some wicked mind-bending magic, or Durantes are actually serious about theses death treats. Our teammember of faith and arcade sorcery make this job to appear much more significant than what it seems. Did I heard one of the mention a vision of sorts? Maybe I should be proactive as well, and ask Halla some advance for trapping tools. Then I will know for sure how seriously Miss no-funny-business wizard takes this treat.   Oh sly Gambler, how I got roped into gnome theater? No doubt Eldove had her ideas infiltrating into the big show of promised evening, but me too? I never in million years I though any reasonable person would put me in lead role of that Shurlock play, never even care for that. It just proves it, Maximus is insane director-hack. At least Eldove has to physically suffers for her scheme. A thief and a pranking bard playing criminal catching detectives? How humiliating.   But speaking of the devils playing at the theater - some old acquaintance was sneaking around backstage. Sanra Sharpthorn, that woman gives gnomes bad reputation while working as an assassin. Nothing worth of stealing in that location so she wouldn't just creep around for fun. Planning to kill my employer? Oh no, not on my watch. She and the the two other accomplices One-Eye Joe was talking about better watch their backs - There's six of us well prepared for this job

Some Unusual Travel Company

Did I already tell you guys about the unusual fellows I was with last time I was here? Alright, well - it happened last Kythona, 12th I recall, there first was this travelling wood elf named Kon Sunionnath that I met on the road after one of my usual dungeon jobs. Sticking out like a sore thumb with those monk pyjamas. He came all the way across Eastern Sea, and was looking for female elf thief that had stolen his family treasure. I don't know why exactly, but I wanted to give him a helping hand on the matter or at least push him in the right direction. He had a good vibe coming from him, and you don't believe what a great hero he end up to be.   So I first thought we could check useful info from Merchant's Rest, which was closest town, and I send letter to Eldove Relynn, good ol' troublemaker. The bard had sharp ears for rumours, and as a half-elf she might have felt sorry enough for the fellow to help us out. Those who didn't knew about our storyteller and master dueler, that she also ran some schemes with me on the side for a great fun. I could always trust on her to have my back in tight spot. Actually, during this journey we pulled fast on that pompous knob of a guard leader Charles; Eldove distracted and I assisted on "donating" big sack of gold to the whole bar. Hah, must have been thousand piece rain. Right after that I though I had a clean getaway, when Charles come running after me. Luckily our invisible bard worked her charms and left the bastard laughing in the gutter that night. Oh, good times.   Anyway, back to the when me and Kon arrived Merchant's Rest in search of Eldove, we some how end up grouping together with crumby dwarf wizzard Halla, stoic elf cleric Amariel - those ladies knew about that Fourways' doomsday prophecy, along with this other cleric guy, human named Darvin. And mixed with Eldove, Kon and I that made us very unusual crew of six spirits. No, seven. Let's not forget the Halla's lovely dog.   Hallbertha Fjellvind is daughter of THE mapmaker, whom I can thank most of my dungeon missions coming to life in the first place. She has my respects, but she really does her best to be a stick in the mud. I found out the pirates sneaking into ship we were taking to Fourways, like a bloody girl scout she immediately runs to cry captain about that. Typical no-fun goody two-shoes. And she also kept this grudge against Eldove about some sold faked scroll which occurred many years ago. Give it a rest already. Although she help me haggle a good deal for a dragon skinned-component pouch, so she does have me on the same side some times at least. Or maybe she just was cross with shopkeeper. That wizzard really knows how to give a piercing glare.   Damn what's the elven cleric's last name? No matter, Amariel, that cleric pulls her weight in fights and seems like alright person. Despite the fact that she seems to watch me like a hawk around her while hiding her purse. Hold on, she did outright call me and Elvode criminals back then, what nerve she had; Eldove never stole a penny and I have never been given sentenced from a crime. Sure, we have our jests, but we never hurt hair of a kind soul. We're not damn back-alley assassins. However, they never run us out on that matter, so I think she and others trusted us. Even Halla, thankfully.   Same goes to Darvin Helder, the human cleric. That kid had it rough. Came out from a war at young age with a missing eye and leg. However, he survived strong enough to fight ghouls and zombies in Asgardian temple. We met briefly before this adventure. Oh, right. Darvin is really touchy about disturbing graves and whatnot. No wonder he didn't like me that time. Or now. I don't know why people can't believe thieves have some sense of honour or honesty.   Anyway, few moments later getting together we were all enjoying drinks together at the Honeybadger-tavern talking about getting into the auction house in Fourways. Right on cue in stepped Sharon, the dragonborn commander of Sea Lions herself asking for a capable crew aboard a river-ship with diplomatic importance....
