Personal history
Born and raised in the heart of the Earth Kingdom, Gaun's family farm is situated outside of Omashu in a village whose only nearby source of entertainment is a wilderness resort. Second eldest of his several siblings, Gaun did a lot [okay, most...] of the labor, and thus missed his chances for better education. But that didn't seem to bother him.
Gaun briefly studied under another earthbender until his oldest sibling got married, and their parents started relying on his help more; Gaun swears he isn't upset by this. At his parent's request, Gaun moved to Omashu to start bringing in more money. There, he ended up working maintenance on the city's delivery system.
Fortunately for Gaun, his employer let him take a bit of unpaid time off so that he could travel to Ba Sing Se on a temporary visit.
Education
Like most of the children living in the surrounding Omashu landscape, Gaun received a basic education and did the bare minimum required of him so he could return home to start working. Reading and writing aren't a problem, but they're not a past time either.
Most of Gaun's understanding of the world comes from what many Earth Kingdom commoners call 'rock solid'; as in, they'll regale one another with mixmatched retellings of personal anecdotes and you gotta believe them because they've got some rock solid advice.
Bending
Gaun studied for a very brief period of time under a local earthbending construction worker, whom he refers to as master. As he did with his academic studies, Gaun learned just enough to make him a valuable asset to his family and their farm.
Employment
He spent most of his life as a farmhand, but he now works in Omashu as a mechanic for the city's delivery system.
Failures & Embarrassments
While not a failure of character, nor much of an embarrassment, Gaun has a tough time being in big cities. Still, he braved his anxiety to visit Ba Sing Se to pay his respects to the late Queen Hou-Ting.
Morality & Philosophy
Not one to ask for help, Gaun is still one to jump to help others when something goes down.
Personality
Motivation
Strength
Gaun spent most of his life farming, and he learned to be pragmatic and understands the necessity of duty.
Flaw
Gaun's pacifism has often been to his detriment, avoiding conflict even when it would be in his interest to confront it.
Desire
After leaving the country for the city, he now yearns for some peace and quiet away from the busy metropolitan lifestyle.
Fear
Gaun is afraid of being known. Hiding a temper, and himself, he is terrified of others seeing what he perceives to be his true self.
