Tennyo（天女）

Hailing from the nation of Kozakura, Tennyo is a tiefling with a grudge. Her family was killed while she was in her teens, and she was left to fend for herself. Her purpose became singular - to find the people who perpetrated this and take her revenge. Tennyo knew little of her parents' death, other than it came at the hand of a devil. When her young sister died shortly after, at the hands of a group of common thugs, she had nothing left to lose and decided to take matters into her own hands. In the act of avenging her sister, she learned that these thugs, too, were connected to creatures from hell. All she had to go on was "there are more on the Sword Coast". Leaving her homeland with just some clothes, a tanto, and the family's ceremonial katana, Tennyo spent the next year travelling by land and sea to reach Waterdeep, and there begun her search for these hellspawn.
 
Very quickly, Tennyo realised she was no match for any devil without first learning a great deal about them. She spent over a decade moving between the free cities of the Sword Coast. Her search yielded many findings, and she learned a great deal about the history of the realm as well as of the devils. Knowing the difficulty of the task ahead, she began to study magic, too. She was aided in her efforts by the sages at Candlekeep and a young wizard acolyte in Baldur's gate, <>. Tennyo practiced and studied for several more years but barely developed more than a couple of rudimentary cantrips. Eventually, she realised her mentor's advice was sound, and she had to venture out into the wilderness to hone and develop her skills through experience. Study alone would not suffice.
 
Tennyo most recently arrived in Neverwinter in late 1490 DR, and spent several more months squeezing every last detail out of the scholars and historians, all the while searching for an opportunity to take her first steps into the world of adventuring. Throughout Tennyo's years in the sword coast, she had made her living as a tattoo artist. Her work had renown in some circles and she commanded a respectable fee. It was through this work that her first adventuring opportunity presented itself. Early in Eleint, 1491, she tattooed a gold dwarf by the name of Gundren Rockseeker. He offered her an escort job: simply taking a wagon of supplies from Neverwinter to the small mining town of Phandalin in the nearby Sword Mountains. She accepted and, in doing so, became embroiled in the saga that would later be known as The Tale of The Lost Mine of Phandelver.
