The youngest of the Lupin-Baudelaire sisters. Never quite comfortable in her human form, she prefers to exist halfway towards a beast when possible. She vastly prefers the outdoors and spends her time taming beasts.

From an early age, she found being indoors too confining–too constraining, and would regularly flee to the woods just to spend time among nature. She was well known to vanish into the surrounding forests for several days at a time, returning muddy, hungry, bleeding, and grinning from ear to ear. Often she’d come home toting yet another small animal under her arm and begging everyone to let her keep it as a pet.
When she was old enough for the transformations to start taking hold, Bernie felt like she was coming into her own and finally able to be something that was closer to who she really was. The wolf shape that her body took on was far closer to “correct” than she’d ever felt before, and she spent as much time in it as possible. She even irritated other family members by trying to eat dinner as a wolf or by trying to hunt her own food. While this did not last, she realized that she still did not feel quite at home in this shape, realizing that while it had something she’d felt was missing, she actively missed aspects of being human. Bernie started to press the limits of her transformations to determine if she could find something that felt “right”. Eventually, she was able to partially transform, placing herself into a hybrid wolf form like the mythical originating members of the family. This felt like who she was supposed to be, and she spent every moment she could in it, only reverting to either her human or wolf forms when absolutely necessary.
She developed an even deeper love for wildlife, especially creatures that other people considered monstrous, like hybrid creatures like griffons, owlbears, basilisks, and hydras. She saw some aspect of herself in their nature, and loved them all the more for it. She wanted to show them all the love and adoration that nobody else ever had.
Bernie tells people that she would like to take care of her appearance, and she understands that appearances matter, but she has too hard of a time sitting still to do any extended periods or grooming routines. She can usually be found with at least a couple of grass stains, mud splatters, or tangles in her hair or fur that she’ll embarrassingly work out if they’re pointed out to her, only for there to be another mess within an hour.
Appearance
Physical Description
Bernie is tall, broad chested, and muscular. She is most often covered in a thick layer of gray and brown fur.
Body Features
Easily identified as the brown hybrid human-wolf, Bernie is just shy of the shape that is typically seen on a werewolf. However she stands straighter, is more muscularly built, and retains enough awareness to make human speech.
Facial Features
Bernie has wild, untamed brown hair, rich green eyes, a strong jaw, and a ruddy, tanned complexion from years spent in the sun.
When transformed in her hybrid form, she retains her pronounced mane of brown hair, and her fur takes on a light gray and brown patterning.
Physical quirks
Even when fully human, a state she loathes, Bernie has long claws and slightly pronounced canines.
Apparel & Accessories
Bernie can most frequently be found wearing a set of grass-stained, but otherwise well-maintained hide armor.
Special abilities
She is often found transformed into a hybrid shape. Halfway between a wolf and a human, it is very similar to a werewolf. Although she can turn fully into a wolf if she must.
She also is very capable with wild animals, often taming them or bringing stray beasts and monsters home to raise.
Mentality
Education
Technically schooled by the Lupin-Baudelaire family, Bernie is probably one of their worst failures as she was completely uninterested in the family history, the local politics, or any of the facts or sciences they tried to impress on her. If she didn't see an immediate practical use for it, she was just as likely to climb out of the window and into the woods.
Intellectual Characteristics
Bernie isn't particularly unintelligent, but her trouble focusing has led her to be rather ignorant on a lot of subjects that other people assume knowledge on. So if she's not certain of what she knows, she'll just keep her mouth shut so she doesn't embarrass herself..
person.sexuality
Bernie is completely uninterested in sex of any kind. She sees it as gross and unnecessary.
person.gender_identity
Bernie's understanding of gender is that she is a woman, she is a wolf, and she is both, preferably.

Personality
Motivation
Like most of her family, Bernie hopes to hunt monsters and keep them from causing harm to people. Unlike the rest of her family, she doesn't see a lot of wild creatures as monsters, and tries to spend time communicating with them and helping find a way for them to live outside of conflict with people.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Bernie is most skilled outdoors and in the company of beasts. She finds them more sociable than most people.
When expected to behave in polite situations, even while well-meaning, she often stumbles, panics, and accidentally makes a scene. She has little interest in learning to improve herself in these circumstances either, opting to let her sisters manage this aspect of the family's affairs.
Likes & Dislikes
Bernie is secretly obsessed with how everything tastes slightly different depending on which form she's in, and will occasionally eat the same meal in different forms just to try it out. Sometimes foods that taste great while she is in one form taste off or bad in another, and she loves figuring out which form is ideal for which meal.
She has a deep and abiding hatred for people who talk down others, or who act with a false or unearned pride.
Virtues & Personality perks
Bernie is very protective of both people and animals, and will go out of her way to make sure that they stay safe. She'll put herself in harms way to protect them without a second thought.
Vices & Personality flaws
Bernie has a very short attention span for anything that wasn't found flying, swimming, or crawling in the woods, and often struggles to understand the importance of things that other people take as a given.
Hygiene
Bernie understands the importance of being clean, however what she considers "clean enough" is often far below the point that other people consider acceptable, considering the wild company she keeps. If someone complains, however, she will sheepishly slink away and resolve the problem.

Honorary & Occupational Titles
As a member of the Lupin-Baudelaire family, Bernie is technically a minor noble, but she doesn't really pay attention to any of that. Especially not enough to know what her actual rank in the line of descent is, except that it's below both of her sisters.
Wealth & Financial state
Indifferent
Family Ties
Her closest ties are to her sisters, Liselle and Elise Lupin-Baudelaire, and by extent, to the rest of the Lupin-Baudelaire family.
Religious Views
Apart from the family reverence to the matriarchal ancestral wolves, and the first children of the Prince that Howls, Bernie deeply reveres the Green Faith. It very much is in line with her overabundant love of all natural things.
Social Aptitude
Bernie is not the most adept person at social interactions, something that is not well helped by her insistence on staying in hybrid form and how frequently she is covered in dirt and debris.
Mannerisms
Bernie is prone to wandering, fidgeting, and pacing. She has a hard time thinking if she sits still, so she rarely does that. If she has to stay in the same room for too long, you will soon be able to trace the circle she paced around the room from her claw marks on the floor.
Hobbies & Pets
Bernie has a tuxedo cat named Bustopher Jones that she rescued from under a nearby barn two years ago. She swears that he's far smarter than he should be, but most of the family doesn't believe her. They are far more concerned with Scuddles, the young Owlbear that she brought home as a cub last year after she saved it from a hunter's snare. Bernie raised Scuddles, hand feeding him, and teaching him how to behave (mostly).
Speech
Bernie's speech is curt and to the point, and often full of off-color shorthands and remarks. When she is in hybrid form, it is often slightly gravely and coarse.
