The Business of Adventure
Truth be told, there's something uncanny about being in the Guild now. Treasure Hunters and Adventurers of all sorts are a staple of life up in Rimeshard. Just in a very different way to what this is now. In an economy made of nothing but fishing, ship-building, and running from dragons, the presence of groups of people with coin to spare is a shock and a half. One party coming through can make coin-enough to buy all sorts of things from over the sea, if they pay for hospitality. Even more if they pay for a guide.
But what we don't talk about, really, is what they leave behind. It takes a fool to go hunting dragons, sure. But not just any fool: a powerful fool. The sort with magic swords, enchanted armor, and so on. The dragons feed their hoards off of idiots like those, sure. But we do, too, in a way. The few coins they spend are one thing, but an amulet pulled off a hero-turned-ice-sculpture? A mace glimmering with holy light, fished out of the hole in the ice where Mr. Platemail fell through?
Well that's very much another.
Strange to think I'm standing on the other end of that, now. Any luck and it won't end the same way.
