Amari is one of the founding members of the
Ring & Wren. He has a natural curiosity that led him to crave knowledge of all things.
Personal History
Amari was born in an Elvish village in the woods. He decided to leave the village and travel to continue his search and broaden his experience, leaving coincidentally at the same time as a wizard named
Kofi was passing through it.
Since they were going down the same road, they stayed in relatively close proximity to each other, helping each other with the mundane dangers of traveling. They also grew closer due to Amari’s incessant asking of questions to the more seasoned traveler. And it was in this way that his senses were first attuned to the natural laws that govern our world.
One night during the rain, the two were struggling to get the fire lit. Suddenly the fire roared to life, twice as big as their normal fire and seemingly out of thin air. Amari jumped back as the blaze engulfed his arm, but the sting he was waiting for never materialized and he realized he felt no pain. He looked at his arm in disbelief, then up at Kofi.
"Why is my arm okay?"
-Amari
"My magic would never be so sloppy."
-Kofi
"Magic?"
-Amari
"Well, if one knows the forces of nature and the systems that govern them, it becomes a simple matter to grab hold of the strings and play a new melody into the world. But these natural forces must be respected. If you lose control and get sloppy, you can hurt people you don't intend to hurt. And then what's the point of having the power in the first place? Once you are able to control them for yourself, you needn't have any fear of them."
-Kofi
Kofi walked through the fire toward Amari with an outstretched hand.
“You can walk through the flames with you without the fear of being burned.”
-Kofi
"Once I'm able...does that mean you'll teach me?!"
-Amari
"Aye."
-Kofi
They clasped hands, and in its echo Amari began to hear the first notes drift out of the world around him.
As they traveled, Amari learned about the world of magic and gained a lot of knowledge about the world. Living in the woods with just Kofi, Amari did not learn many of the social conventions that become second nature to members of a society, preferring to write his own laws and moral code, though he has learned from his time with the Ring & Wren.
Eventually, Amari was forced to continue on his own as Kofi had other matters to attend in a place Amari couldn't go--where shadows gained substance and the natural order was...askew. As they parted, he reminded Amari to keep control of himself and his magic, lest he find himself in dire straits. And bid him goodbye.
“Walk in flames, Amari,” he said, “Walk with the confidence of your own skills. And let nothing burn but the fear holding you back.”
-Kofi
So Amari took on his new mission. He decided to learn all about the laws of nature so that maybe he could figure out how to bend them more in our favor.
That is, until he received a letter from
Festiv Fullsprout, summoning him to a city called
Felstadt. Beckoned by his curiosity, he answered the call...
The Ring & Wren
Amari met up with
Drayton King,
Ragnar Ironbeard, and
Lee at the behest of Festiv. Together, they formed the Ring & Wren.
Amari received an invitation to join the
Arcanati, on the condition that he provide a magic item to the organization. He had originally planned on donating his
Staff of the Magi, believing it suitable for proving his worth. Unfortunately, Amari was killed before he could do so, disintegrated in a fight against a
Beholder.
