Appearance
Physical Description
A lanky Owlfolk with rough feathers and tired eyes. He wears baggy sleeves on his robes to mask how malnourished he looks and keep the long wing like feathers on his arms hidden to maintain a less threatening humanoid appearance.
Identifying Characteristics
Cool blue feathers, unnatural red eyes with a dark outline to them and long 'brow' feathers that droop downwards with the weight of his responsibilities with flower like yellow tips on the end, with a sharp yellow feather between them on his forehead.
He has two other looks that may have been seen around the Gilded Guardians, and one outside especially. A healthier looking and more vibrant appearance of a less disheveled Owlfolk with thick white feathers and yellow eyes and perky brows, usually used when performing.
The second is a human with soft black hair and piercing blue eyes, which he usually uses when dealing with outsiders or otherwise needing to mask his fae appearance.
Physical quirks
He has a supernatural scent of brimstone and charcoal that he tries to mask with perfumes, but it never works.
Apparel & Accessories
Always seen wearing dark robes and an equally dark cloak that shroud his otherwise vibrant feathers. He has a faded looking book that he is never seen without. He usually has a wand slung on his belt, preferring it over staves.
Mentality
Personal history
His early memories are of a dark environment with little light, filled with the scent of fire of the dead. He would eke out a living in an environment that he could only describe as Hell itself. Encountering many fiends and monsters, and hostile environments throughout his childhood, and never the same set. These were in fact various demiplanes of different devils that had come into 'possession' of him, though he'd never meet them himself. These fiendish biomes effectively serving as storage for the possessions, souls, and other belongings of powerful beings who merely regarded him to be one of the many living souls that belonged to them, a currency to be bartered, a footnote. Being such a commodity is the only thing that kept him alive, the smarter fiends preventing the less-so from creating damaged goods, at least nothing permanent.
His only possession from outside of these planes was a small book of fairy tales, something he knew to be from his birthplace from the remarks that the fiends in the know would sometimes make. Whether it be from his nature as a fae or this naive idealism, his soul managed to remain wholly good through his growth, though his body would be affected by the experience, feathers darkening from their once pure white hue as he learned to take advantage of the fiends and their natures for his own gain. A mortal soul was always worth saving, and he'd never harm another, but a devil is just a tool to be used. He would eventually find that he was not the only one living in these circumstances, wayward souls, adventurers, evil-doers, the damned, or those who ended up in these planes by happenstance would be a small reprieve, taking some comfort in the shared situation and occasionally finding shelter. He would eventually find something resembling a life in these places, although a harsh one.
Over time he made a name for himself navigating fiend contracts, becoming a thorn in the side of more than a few devils, and a boon to others. This habit carried on through a few demiplanes, and eventually the owner of one noticed him, apparently finding the fae to be someone worth keeping an eye on, and thus the trading stopped. Being older and more aware that he has been shifting to different demiplanes, rather than finding himself deeper and deeper into the maze like depths of these places, the owlfolk realized he must have been noticed, and started to make himself more useful, and infamous.
Through aiding a mortal in peril from a Succubus by breaking the charm with a love song, to helping an Arcanaloth that was indebted to a greater devil by shifting the favors to be owed to the demiplane's owner, and helping some imps that were in danger from a Spined Devil in an adjacent plane that had been leaking into the ‘home’ one, he’d finally earn a meeting with Rozath, who would then become his Patron. After perhaps the longest and most in-depth contract forming that the devil had seen, the owl essentially offered his brains to compliment the Patron’s brawn, but under his own terms. He’d played the game long enough to get things almost equal, at least on paper, and paper is king.
Education
Growing up in the circumstances he did, one of the earliest things he learned was to speak Infernal. "Raised by wolves" being an understatement for growing up among fiends. The few mortals he would encounter served as something to keep his the fairy tales he'd read about more than a dream and keep him grounded, learning what he could of the material world.
Later in life as an adult and working with Rozath as a Warlock he would be sent to adjacent demiplanes and sometimes to the material, trading tasks and favors for knowledge. Learning things about where he was from, about the fae, his true name, and more practical things like magic, incantations, and increasing in power to keep him alive against more dangerous foes.
Employment
Eventually he made it far enough along in his contract to reach terms he'd negotiated prior that would lead to him being sent to the material plane for an extended period of time with tasks to accomplish for Rozath. Finally, he would be able to do hands on investigation into his family, but he would need money.
He'd found that his parents were involved in a war in the Northlands though no further details than that, and so he traveled there to find out more. In doing so he found his way into the Gilded Guardians, who so far seem to at least put up with his magical inclinations and fiendish circumstances.
Accomplishments & Achievements
He is proud when the evil he's come from and his fiendish nature can be used for good.
One such occasion was when a village's crops were being trampled by a stampede of wild horses, which ended up being lead by a Nightmare. He coaxed it to move on from its current master and instead join Rozath, assuring it that in a few years he will be a force to be reckoned with.
The second was while hunting a bounty. He met a Druid named Ayzel and together they discovered the thief they were after had already been apprehended by a Halfling. Umbra was able to discern that the Halfling was an Imp in disguise.
The third was at a job in the village of Ouroch, where he aided his allies in what later came to be known in the Gilded Guardians as the adventuring group "The Fair Folk", his skill in contracts and some borrowed knowledge from his patron saving lives and helping to banish a fiend back to the fire it came from.
Failures & Embarrassments
His real voice is higher and more dainty than his normal speaking voice, the low growl he usually has is just him putting on airs to match his dark appearance, a habit he picked up in the fiendish planes.
He has an nice singing voice and can play the lyre, it has come in handy enough times that he carries it with him, but he doesn't like to be put on the spot. Despite this, he does enjoy performing, but he would never admit it.
Mental Trauma
His soul is intact, his body damaged. Mentally, despite his harsh upbringing, he seems fairly stable. Whether that is from his fae nature keeping him optimistic or some fragile hope he's clinging to remains to be seen.
Morality & Philosophy
Mortals are always worth saving, fiends are tools to be used. His magic is just another tool, an unavoidable outcome of the fate he was handed from childhood. He aspires to defy any expectations that might leave surrounding him, and will only use his powers for good.
person.sexuality
It's not gay if it's fae.
Known Languages
Common, Auran, Sylvan, Infernal.
Personality
Motivation
He claims that it's simply money, he needs to do tasks for his patron in the material realm and he needs currency to facilitate his stay there. His real motivation in the Northlands is finding out what circumstances lead to him being a commodity for devils in the first place. Did his parents bargain him away? Did they have a choice? Was it worth it?
Virtues & Personality perks
Something about his fey nature has preserved him this long. He is able to detect the presence of Fiends if he concentrates (Detect Evil and Good).
He has traded away the ability to disguise himself for the time being, and in return he no longer needs to sleep.
Vices & Personality flaws
Mortal indulgences like drink, company, and music are things he finds hard to resist. These luxuries were few and far between where he is from, and when they were available it was always at great cost, far more than simple coin.
Personality Quirks
When surprised, injured, or panicked he tends to slip into his real voice and reveal more of his fae nature.

Religious Views
Living in what would be described by most religious texts as Hell for the majority of his life, it is hard for him to view most takes on the afterlife objectively, having encountered many wayward souls trapped in the demiplanes he grew up in. He is not sure what to believe, only that there surely must be some good aligned gods with a sense of humor to let him live this long and maintain his nature.
Speech
Speaking with an almost disinterested sounding growl to his speech usually, he will slip into a more dainty tone when caught off guard, his true voice.
