Session 1: Preludes to War Report

General Summary

Broken Silence

In the central western province of Solamnia, Petals in the Stream and Caches Brimming Beard left from their monastic dwellings in search of a pre-Cataclysmic temple at the behest of temple leadership, accompanied by Ispin Greenshield.

Finding the temple, they discovered iconography describing the pre-cataclysmic history of Krynn, and an inner sanctum dedicated to the gods of Krynn. The statues and symbols of Reorx and Majere stood out to Caches and Petals, and they experienced visions and messages from the gods, bestowing their blessing on them. Ispin mentioned that he too had experienced a vision, but wasn't willing to elaborate on his vision further.

Returning to the temple, the leadership seemed unaware of the arrangement to investigate the temple, and seemingly had not noticed that the trio had been absent over the last week. Ispin suggested the trio meet back up in Vogler at the Kingfisher Festival to further discuss the return of the gods, and of these visions.

Eye in the Sky

At the Barb, an ancient proving ground for magical talent, Juraj Twardowski readies to start his trials of high sorcery, the first step to gaining entry into the Mages of High Sorcery. When he arrived, he met the mage Rovina, who explained the purpose of each of the three orders of the Mages of High Sorcery, and how the lunar characteristics of Krynn govern and balance magical power across Krynn.

She also introduced a visitor and observer for the evening's trials, Ispin Greenshield. Ispin subtly offered his assistance in the trails, and with his help, Juraj successfully acquired an orb from a young basilisk, opening a portal to the trial's exit. As Juraj claimed the orb, it swirled and solidified to a blood red color. While attempting to exit, a shower of sparks, and a vision of the draconic god, Takhisis appeared at the portal, then roared silently, passing through Juraj harmlessly, and rattling both he and Ispin as to what this might signify.

Scales of War

On the road to the town of Firstwal, Erno Flintnose and Lucas Shepherd served as security detail for a pompous, arrogant, and incompetent lesser noble by the name of Lord Bakaris Uth Estide. Noticing a campfire on the road ahead, they met Ispin Greenshield, who offered the company lunch, as well as a few tales about the Knights of Solamnia, and, with Bakaris's prompting, the tale of Lord Soth, a disgraced knight who legendarily failed to stop The Cataclysm.

While Bakaris's jabs clearly seemed to be offensive, and over the line, Ispin maintained his calm, friendly demeanor, and suggested they complete their journey to Firstwal together. On the road, the company encountered a wrecked caravan, clearly attacked and put to the sword, and hurried on to Firstwal, finding the town in flames.

Strange, winged draconic creatures looted the remains of the village, and the company mounted an offensive to drive the remaining draconians off. Finding his friend and colleague, Salan, Ispin offered Salan's helm to Erno, suggesting he might join the Knights of Solamnia, if interested. He also suggested that they continue to assist with tending to the survivors of the attack, while he returned to Kalaman to report on what had happened at Firstwal, and that the pair meet up with him in a few weeks for the Kingfisher Festival in Vogler to discuss what had happened further, augmented by any additional findings Ispin's colleagues might provide.
