The Story So Far...
General Summary
In Eastern Varisia, in a spur of the Mindspin Mountains, lies the dwarven Sky Citadel of Janderhoff, one of the few remaining strongholds of Dwarven culture after their Quest for the Sky. To Janderhoff came a minotaur, Brandi Treasureseeker, seeking vengeance on the ones who framed her for a theft so heinous that it led to her exile from her clan. The trail reached Janderhoff, then continued to the west, but where to the west? Varisia was a wide wilderness.
Returning to Janderhoff was a dwarf, Vixt Norkazz, who had just had a strange misadventure that had changed his perspective forever. No longer could he remain in Janderhoff tending the decaying remnants of the Norkazz legacy. He had felt the call of the goddess Desna, and joined the Knights of the Dreaming Star. He was merely settling his affairs before intending to leave Janderhoff, perhaps forever.
The two found each other and realized a common purpose. Vixt intended to adventure to the west, starting with the town of Sandpoint and its upcoming Swallowtail festival in honor of Desna. He convinced Brandi that Sandpoint would be a good place to find more information. After all, people from across western Varisia would be visiting the festival.
Their journey was hard and full of adventures, but in the end they arrived at Sandpoint.
Meanwhile, a ysoki, Clara Geist, an arcane experiment seeking to learn about the horrible things done to her, traveled to Magnimar to seek wisdom from Thassilonian ruins. Sadly, she found no such wisdom. The strange magical device grafted to her spine, engineered from an ancient Thassilonian artifact, remained a mystery. It granted her bizarre arcane powers, but what else was it doing? Was it killing her? Changing her? She had to know before it was too late. Hearing of the Old Light, an ancient ruin in Sandpoint, she resolved to travel there.
At the same time another ysoki, Miz, the Mouse Queen Mizeri of urban legend, had decided it was time to get out of town and lay low for a while. Being both ysoki and a cambion was not easy, not even in a metropolis like Magnimar. She had finally gathered together enough gold to outfit herself to leave, but the previous owners of that gold resented her acquisition. Fortunately her girlfriend's family owned a farm outside a small town called Sandpoint.
Even in Magnimar, two ysoki outfitted and leaving on the same day was a rarity. It was, perhaps, not surprising that the two found each other, and decided each other would be pleasant companions on the road. Two days later they were in the farmlands south of Sandpoint, and the hospitality shown to Miz was extended to Clara.
The day before the Swallowtail Festival, the two pairs of companions found themselves the recipients of stares and mutters from the townsfolk. A dwarf they could handle, but two ysoki and a minotaur? Scandalous. Everyone knew ysoki were theives and minotaurs were brutes. The reluctance of the people to open up to the strange beings stymied any hope of gathering information, but it did bring the two pairs together.
Acknowledging the wry humor of fate, the four made plans to enjoy the Swallowtail Festival together.
Little did they know that their adventures were only beginning...
