The Edge of the World

A Dungeons & Dragons 5e game In the world of Ardunor
| Full
Welcome to The Edge of the World. This campaign is a West Marches style game set in my personal world of Ardunor.

Overview

The video below is a great explanation of what a West Marches style game is. Just past the video is my quick summary, if you'd like to skip the video.     At it's core, a West Marches style game is a wilderness exploration sandbox campaign with a large number of players. The idea is that the players communicate via email to form smaller parties of 3-6 players. The GM prepares a session for this party and they go on an adventure, exploring the wilderness. At the end of the session, they return to their home base to divy up loot and share their stories with the other players. Rinse and repeat.

The Edge of the World

The region this campaign will take place in is known as The Edge of the World. It is a wild, chaotic place that countless empires have attempted to tame. They failed. Their ruins house untold treasures and power, but also dangerous beasts, horrifying curses, and more. Not to mention the countless creatures who horde treasures in their lairs somewhere out in the wilds.

The Campaign

Everyone will start out as a 3rd-level adventurer. Anything is fair game here, as long as you run it by me first.   There will not be an overarching plot. This is a sandbox game, so the plot is whatever you make it. There is a ton of lore and history waiting to be discovered, and plenty of bad guys with schemes that are just waiting to be foiled by the unsuspecting adventurer.   The themes of this campaign are treasure hunting, exploration, and survival.

Herford, the City at the Edge of the World

Herford, or as the locals refer to it, Edge, is the home base of the player characters for this campaign. It starts off as an isolated, mostly forgotten fortress-city whose inhabitants live bleak existences. Most are fed up with the constant monster attacks, and are ready to pack up and leave, although the arrival of a large number of adventurers has given the city a spark of life.   Herford will start out fairly baren, but over the course of the adventure you, the players, will have opportunities to invest some of your newfound wealth into the settlement and watch it grow before your very eyes.   If you are interested, continue on to the Player's Guide.
