8. Leap of Faith Report

General Summary

10th of Eyre, 998 YK

  • The party approaches Daine, Lei and Pierce. Terfel catches up with them and finds out what's going on.
  • Lei's earliest letter was in Dravago 997 YK, and her last was in Zarantyr 998 YK (3 months ago). Jode has been dead for 3 months.
  • They've been working for a Zil gnome named Alina Lorridan Lyrris. They've been looking for an AWOL employee of hers who she believed stole off with some Khyber dragonshards.
  • Rasial turned up dead in the same pile as Jode, they have no leads.
  • One of the refugees that attacked Daine, Lei and Jode is still alive. A changeling named Monan, who is still in a coma. They had psionics, which they used to put Daine in a coma. He'd still be out if not for a Kalashtar named Lakashtai.
  • Daine informed Kalshana that there is a community of Kalashtar in Sharn.
  • Daine explained that if they're looking for work, there are 2 guilds that could use their skillset. The Clifftop Adventurer's Guild and the Deathsgate Explorers' Club.
  • While talking, they were approached by an old man, Councilor Teral ir'Soras. He was a royal advisor of Queen Dannel of Cyre before the Mourning.
  • He invited them to dine with him in his tent, he likes to dine with new people every night, better to hear the needs of the community.
  • After some more chat with Terfel's old squad, they went to dine with Teral.
  • Conversation was primarily centered on the Mourning. Teral was in Metrol on the Day of Mourning.
  • All in all, Teral managed to find about 100 survivors, whom he led out of the Mournland.
  • One of those survivors, Olalia, was serving the party. At Teral's signal, she showed the group her petrified teeth and inner mouth.
  • At some point during the discussions, Warden put his hands on his gatekeeper stone and felt they were cold, indicating the presence of Xoriat's influence.
  • Further discussion of the Mourning and it's effects. It's possible the attacks by refugees mentioned in Lei's Letters are further mutations from that exposure to the Mourning, only just manifesting.
  • This is worrying, it implies that Terfel's exposure may have effects that have yet to be apparent.
  • The changeling Monan had a twin brother named Hugal, who hasn't been seen since Monan attacked Daine.
  • After dinner with Teral, Terfel set up his tent next to Daine's. Dax' Athla, Kalshana and Warden rested "outside".
  • It "rained", despite the sky not being visible. Pierce explained that Lei had told them that the "rain" is a combination of condensation and run off from the higher levels.
11th of Eyre, 998 YK
  • In the morning, they traveled to Clifftop to inquire about joining the Clifftop Adventurer's Guild. They met with Guild Handler Lhara who explained the benefits and costs of joining. They accepted.
  • Lhara took them to a bridge in Clifftop, Upper Dura, where a crowd was gathering. An announcer announced that this would be the site of a contest of guts between the Clifftop Adventurer's Guild and the Deathsgate Explorers' Club.
  • They were going to play a game called Sharn Chicken. They were each given a Feather Token and the rules were explained. They jump, and the last ones to activate their feather tokens win.
  • Dax' Athla's resolve breaks after she narrowly avoids a washing line spread between two towers and she activates her token. Warden plows into the line and gains a bedsheet.
  • A flock of dirty pigeons is disturbed and flies into their paths. Kalshana takes a face full of sky rat, but the other PC's avoid. A couple of their rivals also get face fulls of pigeon.
  • Dax' Athla spots a couple of magewrights carefully levitating a pane of glass between two towers, right in the falling adventurer's paths! She yells a warning.
  • Kalshana plows through the glass, shattering it and turning the obstacle from an unassuming pane of glass to a cloud of spinning, sharp glass shards. Her resolve breaks and she uses her feather token.
  • Warden manages to avoid the glass despite being tangled in a bedsheet.
  • Both Aena and Gor'aashta suffer the glass, and their resolves break.
  • As they fall, they're all momentarily blinded by a flash of multicoloured light on a nearby bridge, which causes a crowd to disperse, screaming, around a central figure.
  • Terfel, Warden and Ferrin make it to the bottom, activating their tokens at the last second.
  • As more of the Clifftoppers made it to the end, the Clifftop Adventurer's win!
  • Lhara congratulates them, and gives them a couple options for their first job. A bounty for a Q'barran lizardfolk named K'zzal, and a delivery in Blackbones.
  • They take the bounty because it pays better. Lhara hands them the bounty poster.
