59. Fuckin' Dolgrims Report

General Summary

15th Dravago, 999 YK

• Garundah unpetrifies and talks to the party. The cockatrices were toying with her, repeatedly petrifying her. She has no idea how much time has passed, but the party knows it's only been a couple days.
• Between them they try to harvest the cockatrice venom, but they don't seem to have any. They cut off the cockatrice's heads and take them.
• Garundah will repair Errol during the next long rest.
• They begin to head south towards the artillery piece, where they hope to find Whist and the Arrow of Truth.
• Dax' Athla attaches a couple cockatrice heads to the ends of some arrows.
• While they are travelling, the weather starts to change. The mist above them darkens, and silent, silver bolts of lightning start to streak across the sky.
• Lightning strikes the ground ahead of them, illuminating and revealing the cannon they're looking for. Zedd notes that the cannon is surrounded by dolgrims. Ah, beans.
• It gets worse! The dolgrims are actually dancing around an effigy made from several mutilated people.
• They plan and approach. They leave the wagons and horses 300 ft away, with Zedd and Garundah behind to guard them.
• On the approach, Warden polymorphs into a Giant Ape and starts bounding towards the dolgrims.
• Lozaal gets into range and notes that the dolgrims are chanting backwards in goblin. They are praying for insects to burrow into them.
• He also notes that the effigy is screaming for help, it seems the people that make it up are still alive.
• Lozaal shoots at the dolgrim on top of the cannon, and it starts to angrily jump up and down. This seems to dislodge the cannon a bit, alerting Lozaal to the risk that it could fall on the effigy.
• Dax' Athla casts Slow whilst flying using her Thranish Angel Wings of Flying.
• Warden the Giant Ape sponges a bunch of crossbow bolts, but then loses concentration and turns back into his warforged form.
• Lozaal charges forward and kills the jumping dolgrim. There is no longer a threat of the cannon falling on the effigy.
• Warden casts plant growth to slow the dolgrims. The Mournland warps the spell and causes the plants to have razor sharp leaves made from glass.
• Combat is long and drawn out, but eventually the dolgrims run out of ammo and have to charge. None of them make it to the party before being shot to death.
• Dax and Lozaal fly over to the effigy and examine it. It is made up of 6 people, 4 of which Lozaal judges cannot be saved.
• Kalshana flies over using her broom and uses the Wand of Great Mercies to knock the people in the effigy unconscious. Lozaal kills those he deems beyond saving.
• Warden and Dax clear a space in the razor glass plants.
• In the process of extracting them from the effigy, another individual dies. Whist is the only survivor, who formed the tail of the scorpion.
• Whist has been extracted from the effigy.
• They salvage the ruined cannon.
