16. The Wonderful Sewers of Sharn Report

General Summary

14th Eyre, 998 YK

• The party discussed what to do next, they decided not to look for Rhazala. Instead, they made a plan to use Terfel Glas as bait.
• They returned to High Walls, and split up. Warden summoned his familiar, Breek, as a pigeon, and got it to tail Terfel.
• Whilst wandering, Terfel stumbled upon the inactive form of Pierce. He stopped, and Warden healed the unconscious warforged.
• Pierce explained that they were ambushed near Teral's tent. Daine and Lei are missing, as is Llyr.
• Returning to their tents, they found Olalia fidgeting anxiously. They tried to talk to her, but she can't speak.
• Kalshana mind linked with Olalia, and discovered that not only is she unable to speak, read or write, she is also unable to understand speech. Since the Mourning, she's been totally unable to communicate with anyone but Teral. It seems she can only communicate telepathically.
• Olalia explained that Teral is the skinless man, and he kidnapped Lei and Daine.
• Olalia knows the way to the secret hospital! She can take them there
• She takes them there
• Warden summons his familiar as a spider, and sends it in ahead of them to scout. It descends into the hospital and witnesses Daine choke a man to death and take his sword.
• The party descends, running into Daine and Llyr. Llyr runs to Terfel and grabs him, holding on tight.
• Daine is angry, more angry than Terfel has ever seen him. Terfel manages to convince him to take Llyr to safety. Pierce goes with Daine, and comments that they could scout the rest of the facility.
• Terfel proceeds, and enters a room with hospital beds. Teral is standing over an unconscious Lei, strapping her down.
• Terfel hides, but Teral smells him. They have a conversation, where Teral states that the Gatekeepers lie about Xoriat. This caused Warden to barge in to argue with him.
• There is a fairly lengthy discussion about the nature of reality, and Xoriat. Teral claims that Xoriat is the plane of revelation, not madness, and that it reveals the true, ideal state of reality. All of this he learned from an entity he calls Lord Chyrassk.
• Teral is zealous, he believes what he says strongly and they can't get him to see reason. It doesn't help that he thinks he's trying to get them to see reason. They're unable to reconcile, and combat breaks out.
• Teral folds into his scar, or maybe his scar folded out over him, revealing a skinless juggernaut of a man twice the size of Teral, with a tentacle emerging from his right sleeve (as well as his normal hand and arm).
• Oh, great, Teral also has a stinger on his incredibly long tongue. And it's poisonous.
• After a couple of rounds, Teral exclaims that "He comes!". Moments later, the door is opened by a mind flayer.
• Aww shit
• The mind flayer calmly comments that he wasn't expecting guests, and then mind blasts everyone. Warden and Terfel are stunned, and Terfel has the most hp of anyone in the group at this point, with a whopping 7 hp. Dax' Athla is left with 1 hp, Kalshana with 2 and Warden with 3!
• Dax goes ham on the flayer, and it starts to flee. Warden heals her, she gives chase, and shoots an arrow through the back of it's bulbous, octopus like head.
• Hugal Desal falls down the stairs into the room, having been stabbed by Daine, who follows.
• Daine recovers Lei from the table, and takes her to safety. Pierce sends Llyr and Olalia down to the group.
• Kalshana kindly offers to take Olalia to Overlook, where everyone is telepathic. She would like that.
• 3 creatures emerge from Teral's body, a tentacle, his tongue, and his skinless flesh sloughs from his form.
• Llyr is scared but acts brave for the others.
• They short rest, and prepare to explore the rest of the facility.
