  Welcome to Ataria A world of Empires, forged in the fires of battle, weathered by the ages, maintained by friendships and rivalries alike. Originally a supercontinent created by the impact of a great arcane meteorite which collided with a habitable planet some 10 billion years ago, the three continents which make up modern day Ataria have diverged over the millenia due to events of tectonic, but also magical nature. The magic that manifests itself in this world is but the dying remnants of what once was. The death-rattle of a once supremely powerful arcane force that echoed throughout the landscape. The Great Fade, as it is now called, was predicted by scholars just after the first great empires arose in Ataria some 20 million years ago, it has been a key part of every religion (although depicted in drastically different forms) for time immemorial. The Great Fade, and how to overcome it, has also been the subject of much bloodshed in Ataria's long history, and continues to be a bone of contention even now between certain cultures. Although now widely regarded as inevitable, some still seek to prevent it by calling on unscrupulous magics, or by attempting to invoke supremely powerful beings from other planes. Nothing so far has been able to reverse the gradual fizzling out of magic from Ataria.
