Research Consult Day

General Summary

Murtagh found himself missing building things, so he made his way to the docks, to do some shipwright work. Bayleaf tagged along to do some day labor, to think of some (non-human) songs he could preform as a busker. He called himself "Connal".   Lyra and Guy had a few hours to kill before their meetings.   The met with Yola at a coffee shop near her house. They explained that they were interested in a binding on somene else, made into a slave, and how that could be broken with their list of items (Hammer of Storms, Anvil of the Underdark, Forgemaster's Tongs, Fire of the Deep, and Chalice of the Deep). After some basic followup questions from Yola, to clarify their goals, Guy almost immediately came clean, and explained that they were trying to free Dreka. Yola fairly obviously didn't take them seriously, since the items were mythical and very probably not real.   Yola took them much more seriously when Lyra pulled out the Hammer of Storms, and Guy explained they'd found three of the items. She expressed an immediate desire to study them, willing to work on their questions while also doing research for a paper she intends to publish.   Yola gave them a seven day estimate, assuming she has access to the items. She agreed to have two of the party stick around while she studies, to keep an eye on the item. She tells them to come to her home tomorrow to begin.   Guy and Lyra went to get lunch, opting not to speak with Tan Rose, who didn't seem excited to work with them, anyway.   In the afternoon, Guy and Lyra meet with Steeple, who takes them to the the Forged Cultural Center to meet with a Sentinel known as Wave Watcher. They are a large, imposing Forged, taller than most, with a deep, reverberating voice.   Sentinel took them to their own private chambers, where they had clearly brought gnome sized chairs, so that Lyra and Guy could be more comfortable. Sentinel knelt down, so that they were on eye level with the gnomes, and patiently listened to Guy and Lyra explain their plan. Their intent to free Dreka, but their worry that this might be unsettling for Forged relations with their goddess.   After hearing them out, Wave Watcher told them their desire to free the Mother in Chains, and any enslaved creature, spoke to their kindness and compassion. That these were good instincts, that will serve them through the rest of their lives. But a terrible lesson all Forged, and all good people, must learn, is that the Mother is in chains. Dreka gave her life and freedom to create new life, with the desire that the new life would live fully, and love the experience. She did not ask for her creations to free her, and she expends any excess energy she can into the creation of new life, so that the energy cannot be built up and abused by her captors. Wave Watcher absolved them of the need to free Dreka, and told them that she would bless their attempts to live and love.   When Guy and Lyra insisted on their mission, and said they were chosen and guided by Vanir to do it, Wave Watcher seemed... unimpressed. They said that Vanir had tasked many groups to do it, although this group may have gone farther than the others. Overall, Wave Watcher did not seem to like Vanir, but trusted that Vanir was motivated to free his daughter.   Wave Watcher finally admitted that if Dreka was freed, the Forged would rejoice. They urged caution, if the items the party collected fell into the wrong hands, the consequences could be disastrous. But Wave Watcher also would not stop the group, because they still cherish the hope that Dreka may one day be freed. Lyra agreed to message Wave Watcher with their locations, so that if something were to happen, the Sentinels could try to collect the magical items.
