Session 3: The Source is Found Report
General Summary
Traveling to the elusive wizard's tower, the party found themselves within a spell laden forest. Full of old magic, almost as if crossing a border, the world around them became dark, as if someone turned out the lights. The sky was clear, there was no fog to obscure vision, it just seemed to be perpetually nighttime. Traveling further in, the plants became enourmous, larger than 12' in height. Despite walking for what seemed like hours, looking back it seemed to be only a few feet. Upon lighting a fire for the night, instead it explodes like a bundle of fireworks, suddenly the entire forest shakes, ferns attempting to hit the explorers and grab them. Niklan came to realize that it was a spell, eventually seeing that the ferns were in fact normal sizes and that everything seemed to be a hallucination or hologram. Being the only member to see clearly where to go, he led them through the forest along the path.
After two days of travel, the party starts to lose their mind. Niklan starts to hear whispers and screeching in his head. All he could make out were words of "death", "kill" and others along similar nature. On the third day, the voices got worse, now at full volume and speaking sentences of "kill them all"and "bathe in their blood" filled his mind. He was able to reason that this was all part of the spell, however it still got to his mind.
Finally, on the end of the third day, they reached a bridge. At first, only Niklan could see its prescense, the rest of the party merely saw a large ravine. After a day of hearing Niklan muttering phrases of death, understandably, the party was reluctant to believe that there was in fact a bridge. They decide to cross, trusting it is there, and immediately they find themselves on a cobbled path, surrounded by a manicured garden.
Faced with a choice between a darkened forest path, much like the one they just exited, and a skinny stair case wrapping up the mountain, the party chose the stairs. Immediately, it appears to crumble away. Believing it to be yet another illusion, the party continues, however at this point Raina becomes concerned that it might not be a spell; suggesting to go through the dark forest. As soon as the party enters the forest, they become transported to a tower. In the middle is a glowing tree, Drop-Leaf.
A dark figure seems to come out from the wall and introduces himself as Elendar Jhalavar, the wizard of Somerston Key. Upon being told of the quest, he reluctantly helps the party and sends them to the docks, believing this to be the man they seek. The only clue given is "he was the first you met". Arriving at the docks, the crew again meets Wat Daham, who they now know to be part of the rebellion and the cause of the corruption on this island. After a battle between the two, they let him live as long as he leaves the island.
