Session 11: Friends Along the Way

General Summary

Previous Session: Session 10: Web Collecting   A black-robed elder with large muscles and tattoos fends off two bandits, grappling one. Two other bandits fight guards by the bar where a frightened bartender, drunkard, and worker are crouched behind. Several more bandits are hiding by a large table in the back of the tavern holding light crossbows. The party notices that some of the bandits are wearing armour with spider symbols on them. The Lads move in, Willow firing at the crossbow bandits while Hettle and Glen help the robed brawler before joining the guards. The crossbow wielders switch to their swords and charge the party. Their charge is in vain, as the Lads and the mysterious fighter handily deal with all of them, leaving a somewhat bloody mess but otherwise leaving any non-bandits involved in the brawl unconscious.   A guard questions the robed man on what started the bloodbath to which he replies, "He touched my shoulder." The guard laments the party having left such a mess for them to clean up. As a guard escorts the villagers outside and another collects bodies against a wall, he warns the robed man not to cause any more trouble and thank's the party for helping end the fight. He then leaves to help the corpse piler, and the brawler sits down at the bar. Willow sits down next to him and asks for his name. The man proudly introduces himself as Muda K'aang, also known as King K'aang, the famed Acrusian fighter. Willow then asks if he knows anything about the bandits with spider armour, but he says he knows nothing about it. The Lads ask Muda why he is in Mariam, and he says that he is working in the stockpiles as a labourer. The Lads take a moment of consideration before offering Muda to join them as a bounty hunter, which he accepts. The Lads fill Muda in on how their operation works as they leave the tavern, where two guards stand. They then leave Mariam and head home towards Krong.   As night falls, The Lads camp just outside the walls of Mariam. They ride in their cart at dawn for an uneventful first day, other than light conversation, before they camp for another night. Morning comes, and they continue down the road. Sometime past midday, The Lads are ambushed by a pack of 6 beastmen cultists. As they close in on the cart, three holy warriors emerge from the brush and attack the beastmen. One of the warriors holds their amulet and utters a prayer, causing several beastmen to flee in fear. One warrior chases the fleeing beastmen while the others help The Lads. They deal with all of the beastmen, and the warriors heal the wounded with divine magic.   The Paladins introduce themselves as members of The Order of The Immortal Sword. An Order dedicated to protecting the realm of Aeterna and based in Acrusia, these three have travelled to Halcyon seeking a powerful demon known as Kish'lagg nearby. The Lads say they have had run-ins with Kish'lagg's cultists before, and the two parties make a deal. Sir Erlenwald and Sir Jaraleto, brothers by blood and devotion, would go with The Lads to destroy Kish'lagg. Once they had destroyed Kish'lagg, The Paladins would divide 295 GP supplied by The Order amongst them. Sir Haagen would return to their temple and inform The Order of the arrangement. Sir Haagen says goodbye to his companions and wishes them luck, heading back the way they came. Jaraleto and Erlenwald hop into the cart, and the party continues to Krong.   The party reaches Krong and stops outside. The Paladins walk into Krong and head towards the Merchant's Guild, where a townsman told them they could send a letter. Once there, they write a letter informing the Order of the arrangement and the return of Sir Haagen, in case he does not return. They pay the fee to have it sent to Noxion and give it to the guild attendant before leaving Krong and returning to the cart. The party then moves the cart into the forest, and they camp outside the walls for the night. In the morning, they awake to damp coldness and a rainy, stormy day. Hettle plans to turn himself in to the guards and prove his innocence, challenging his bounty claiming jewelry fraud.   Next Session: Session 12: Stormy Weather
