Allow us to include content from another article

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

The ability to include the contents of a specified article/article section in another article.  This exists in several other wiki formats I've used.     While variable text fragments technically meet this requirement, the way variable text fragments are implemented outside the UI features for article management make it very time consuming to use variables for these purposes.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

If we could simply include content from another article by section, a number of issues with content duplication such as the current request to make articles timelines would easily be solved.  The timeline could just be set to contain the contents of a specific article body.

What are other uses for this feature request?

Allowing an article segment to be included in another article segment would reduce the need to develop parallel systems like variable text fragments and reduce the overall and provide a tool for the community to synchronize article content without having to maintain multiple articles that contain the same information.

Follow up

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but I feel I already explained why generic blocks and variable fragments are not ideal.   Sectional transclusion, transclusion and inclusion in various wiki syntaxes reflects the importance of being able to call information from an existing article into a new article in whole or in part. Even if we were just able to call an article body, this would be incredibly useful.   Going back and making every article body a variable would be incredibly time intensive, but if that's really what you're offering here I have no choice.

The Team's Response

That can be achieved either by using a generic block or a variable. The idea of SoulLink for an on the spot editing of a variable fragment is not a bad one but this is not what this suggestion is about.   Please feel free to raise a feature request for inline variable editing.
