What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Adding images is currently easy though incredibly clunky and getting the "correct" size can be impossible. If I want to add an image to a particular section of an article and have text wrap around it, 9 times out of 10 that image will be too large and will look incredibly bad in the article when viewed. Shrinking down images to get them to not look weird often reduces quality or makes text unreadable unless you have particular image editing software.
It'd be nice if we could insert and position images a bit more freely, I'm not sure how this could be done as I'm not really an avid programmer, but the current system just seems like the worst possible. I've tried reading all of the guides, watching videos and so forth, and no matter what I do I can't get them to look good unless I use side pannels/sections.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
It would mostly just be a quality of life/ease of access kinda fix... being able to readily resize and reposition images in a kind of "drag and drop" or whatever environment would be ideal, similar to microsoft word or google docs.
What are other uses for this feature request?
The Team's Response
Hello beans!
There is already a system to resize your images on World Anvil. You can set both the alignment of an image in the page and its width. You can find more information on this here:
Guide to images
That aside, the proportions of an image can really only be defined by the image you are uploading. There are MANY completely free amazing services like
PIXLR that allow you to do really good advanced editing to your images before you upload them.
There will be be a lot of improvements to the coming months that are related to images, but the support this suggestion received is disproportionate to the ask, which is to build from the ground up an image manipulation system.
