Now, regarding WHY we have the dropdown and how easy it is to be updated
This list has been for tens of thousands of users a source of inspiration and a way discover and create things they would have never thought of the same goes for all types of the website. If you have ideas about things that should be there and they are not I will be very happy to add them to any of the type boxes
The other reason that these are there, is a secret. As in we have plans to create something for you that will really excite you and it DOES need a comprehensive and set list of types for locations.
You do not have to put a suggestion for something simple like that, it takes 10 seconds to be added globally, all you need to do is come to #developement-discussion and @-me with a list of things you want to be added. 95% of them are added immediately, the other 5% might need to go to a quick vote by the guild to get it there. it is that simple.
So please, if you DO have a long or short list of things you are missing, do give them to me and I will add them
I echo what scholarmage commented, it would be great to have an option of an "other" field that opens a user-filled text box.
I could go either way on this - having the pre-existing list has been very useful to scroll through for ideas, but there has already been several occasions when I've had to settle for 'close enough'. Having an 'Other' type which, if selected, reveals a free-text field which is otherwise hidden, would be very useful and allow the best of both worlds, I think.
ho yeah for this small tables would be so cool to be able to add our own attributes, and yes it could be added for any article where you have a type of column :)
I feel like this would be a very useful feature, I personally have had trouble in the past with none of the things fitting, Some things can be generalized but a lot of things can get confusing when they are. For example, i might be misunderstanding this but, I have to connect parts of a multiverse, and its a bit akward when An entire Universe is classified the same as like a hill.
Honestly, I like having a list of default suggestions for types. You can always write your own with key-value pairs instead.
I think this eases the work load on the staff to keep updating this field. It is a great idea.
