KEEPING CATEGORIES AND SUBCATEGORIES OPEN

User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) · Articles & templates · Created by Kaokesi

When I am opening category files I usually have to open several tiers of subcategories to get to the article I want to edit. This issue is that after I open that article and edit it when I return to the category page all of my categories and subcategories have closed and I have to reopen everything all over again.

I'd like the categories and subcategories to stay open when I am done editing my article. We need an easier way to get back to the category page without having to click it and reset it.

This will allow users to more easily edit their articles and navigate their categories/subcategories. This same ability to "back out" of an article and return to the same page as you left it would be helpful in other areas of the website as well.

The Team's Response

Although this might happen in the future it is a massive drain for the system since suddenly the system will have to make potentially 100s of calls to get the data that is quite possibly not used at all.

I can see the merits of the suggestion, but would need to also have the option to close all open categories, otherwise you'd just have the same problem in the other direction.

This would be brilliant. The time spent renavigating is a real pain. I get around it at the moment by opening articles in a new tab but it's easy to forget and click away.

The Ability to Pin favorite categories to the list would be amazing, too.

For those suggesting to "keep a tab open", that's a good work around right this second, but isn't necessarily a long-term solution (unless this is too difficult/impossible to implement on WA). I'd love to see it here, as some other sites and programs do it too. Scrivener, for example, always remembers which folders and sub-folders I've opened even when I close out the program, making it fast and easy for me to pick up where I've left off or to stay focused and not waste time while working.
