dictionary -search
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
I love the language template, especially the ability to enter individual dictionary words. I've found uses for it well beyond conlangs-- dictionaries of symbolism, secret visual codes, etc. But the search function leaves me cold. I find myself wanting to search by etymology or part of speech, and unable to. I'd love to see a filter for these things, or even just an updated search bar that also scans the other info boxes for what you're typing into the box.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
With this update to the search, we'd be able to see-- for instance-- all the nouns in the language, or all the words derived from a certain root. You might be able to find words more easily even if you don't remember the exact wording of a definition. (What's the Elvish word for... shoot, did I call it happiness? Joy? Contentment? Inner peace?)
What are other uses for this feature request?
It also opens up much easier functionality for my favorite use of the dictionary: as a template to sort ways of communication that aren't necessarily written or verbal. You could use the more strictly "linguistic" boxes instead as sorting/category terms to make the language more easily searchable. Parts of speech could become a hand gesture or material component in a magic system codex, a flower, berry, wood, or leaf in a druidic language of plants, a metal or stone in an alchemy guide, a braid or curl in a secret language of hairstyles. "Tell us about a language with a verbal component in your world!" is one of the official prompts, and this could encourage people to make that even richer and more usable!
The Team's Response
