Identify Dead Characters Better

Currently, the Settlement template identifies a ruined settlement with a red RUINED SETTLEMENT note in the sidebar, followed by the year the settlement was ruined.   I would like to see a similar treatment for Characters who are dead, so the sidebar would be headlined with a red DECEASED note or similar. Could be in addition to the Life entry (in which case it would show only the death year) or instead of (in which case it could be followed by the existing Life value). The change adds a measure of consistency across the templates, and brings an important piece of information about the character immediately to the user's attention.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! We're putting this under design investigation, as we want to stay consistent with the templates about other things that an be "dead/defunct".

As a long-time character-killer, this would be great!

Don't have much to say but I feel that his would be a useful addition to the site.

While I'm not necessarily wanting a red 'deceased' marker headlining the sidebar, it would be nice to have a CSS class added to character articles that indicates a character is deceased so that one could make subtle layout adjustments for dead chars. If this suggestion is accepted, I would hope that the red DECEASED text be marked up in a way that makes it simple to target with CSS.

I'm not sure about this one. The vast majority of my characters are deceased since I'm working on a long imaginary history and something too prominent would get a bit wearing for the reader compared with just the discrete death date. For me, it is the living characters that are the exception. I suppose it's all about the balance of your world and how you are using it but just thought I'd put in a word for keeping things as they are which I actually like.

I am all for the red deceased note, less so for only showing the death year. Seeing the age a character is important, imo
