Saving UX Articles
There's currently a save button whenever you're typing an article, but it seems a little redundant given articles immediately auto-save after anything is changed about them. Toggling the auto-save function on or off would make this button more useful!

The Team's Response

Althought I understand the usefulness of something like this, it has received very low support in both votes and points.   In addition, the reasoning behind this circles under the possibliby of user error and the counter proposal also carries the same chances of forgeting to save your work.   The Plato is known to have issues with undo, this is not the case at all with Euclid text editor. You can change between the two from the Interface Options.

Having a proper way of undoing changes, or supporting a "Draft" version on top of the existing main version, would be better than toggling autosave. People would quickly regret toggling when they forget about it and lose their content.

Yes please! Sometimes I accidentally delete part of a paragraph I didn't mean to delete and then it's instantly saved! Meaning all my progress will be lost due to a stupid little mistake. Or maybe we could add an undo button like in word.

I lost a bunch of work yesterday to autosave. I would like to be able to toggle it.

Honestly I just want to be able to dick around editing published articles without having to draft them temporarily whilst I make changes. I've lowkey wished we could turn off autosave from the beginning.

The button pre-existed the auto-save and was kept to appease people who didn't trust the autosave feature to be, well, automatic.   I will admit the ability to toggle the autosave would be nice - at the minimum until the Plato/WYSIWYG editor recommended to most new users is rebuilt because there have been issues with that editor not having a complete record of undo/redo with ctrl+z and ctrl+y (there's a bug report about this issue).   But considering how World Anvil has been trying to reduce the demands for more tabs with the Artemis navigation and the new overlay, I suspect a lot more people would be losing their work when using those if auto-save were turned into a toggle.
