What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Google Earth has an immense amount of features, including the ability to integrate custom maps, highly detailed locations on the Earth's surface, and is currently expanding to include other planets in the system as well. For those games that take place on Earth in the past, present, or future, it would be invaluable.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
It doesn't really 'address' the current situation as allow for an in-depth tool that has multiple useful features, including measuring the distance between locations (as the bird flies), etc.
What are other uses for this feature request?
Integrating links to World Anvil articles from custom pins on the surface of the Earth (or a custom map made by individual creators) is a useful enough feature (and technically, combination of features) to merit its inclusion on its own. However, it could theoretically aid in climate distribution, weather generation, etc.

RE: Lusty Velociraptor -> It is entirely possible to create custom maps using any template for Google Earth. It's an incredibly powerful platform that allows a significant degree of functionality that it would seem ludicrous to spend the man-hours to replicate when you could use that time to integrate instead. I'm not familiar how it's done, but one example was World of Mapcraft, which used Google Earth integration to recreate Azeroth.
Thank you Dustie: The flexibility already built in to Google Maps would benefit everyone who uses any map, not just existing planets like the original message implies, and free up WA dev time from having to add similar functionalities in the future if it were ever requested.
