What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
TL;DR:
I would like to be able to share any image I have uploaded to my world's Images, or any image in a specific Image Gallery, directly to my player's Handout/Live Screen within the Storyteller's Screen. I would like to be able to do this without having to re-upload them to the Storyteller's Screen's Media/Image Gallery.
Right now, in order to share an image with my campaign players using the Handouts/Live Screen feature of the Digital Storyteller's Screen, I have a few options:
- I could upload those images ahead of time or during the session to the Media/Image Gallery, and from there send them to the Handouts Screen
- I could create an article and put the image on the article, add that article to my Library, and send that to the Handouts Screen
In practice, I frequently already have an article built out around this image, especially if the image is that of an object, place, or character that my players will soon learn more about. That article includes basic things, like the name of the object/person, which my players have not learned yet, and likely utilizes some of the template-specific fields. I am put in the position where I either need to put everything about that article (including things like the article name, and things I would like to put in template-specific fields) in a secret, or I would have to create a second, bare-bones article with only the image, and nothing else in it, and share that one. Both of these unnecessarily clutter up my world with duplicates.
Since I have already created an article for this image, I have also already uploaded it to the world Images. It seems duplicative (and a waste of my finite upload space) to have to upload this image a second time to the Media/Image Gallery section of the Storyteller's Screen.
I propose a number of possible solutions:
- All world images for the world associated with the campaign are available in the Storyteller's Screen Media/Image Gallery. This may be overkill for some, but would solve the problem for me.
- World images are searchable from within the Storyteller's Screen, like world articles. This perhaps might not work if your images are not named consistently, but would suffice for my case.
- Image Galleries can be tagged with specific campaign(s). When tagged, those images are accesible somewhere via the Storyteller's Screen. This is perhaps the most flexible option, and utilizes the Galleries feature that is already built out for world images.
- Images themselves can be tagged with specific campaign(s). When tagged, those images are accesible somewhere via the Storyteller's Screen. This would require more manual tagging on the user's part, but would prevent the main issue of having duplicate resources.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
There are two issues I wish to address with any of these options:
- Streamlined image sharing during a session.
- No duplication of articles/images, which clutter the world and cut into finite upload/article count limits.
